Description:

An opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join the Major Projects Business on the Southern Integrated Delivery (Track) based in London with frequent travel to site.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Ensure compliance to legislation, rail industry and client standards through structured management audits and checks.
  • Ensure works are carried out complaint to legislation, rail industry, client and VolkerRail engineering standards.
  • Assist in the management and safety validation of change in accordance with VolkerRail Standards and Procedures.
  • Support the complete bid/tendering process.
  • Ensure the requirements of Engineering Management of Projects NR/L2/INI/02009 is correctly applied.
  • Act as Contractors Engineering Manager.
  • Act as CRE (Track).
  • Management of designers from GRIP 0-8 as part of the development services contacts.
  • Ensure competent engineering staff are in place to carry out works on projects under your remit.
  • Lead the formulation of Training and Development plans.
  • Develop/mentor relevant staff to act in the capacity of CEM and CRE.
  • Develop and mentor relevant staff in track engineering competencies e.g. Track handback, stressing etc.
  • Carry out site safety tours and Cat 3 audits as required by the contract.
  • Maintain contacts within the railway industry to ensure VolkerRail maintains a competitive position by use of best practice and innovative techniques.
  • Oversee the technical development of Graduate P Way and Civil Engineers/Students and other trainees through to professional qualifications via a structured programme.
  • Lead and participate as required in technical/safety incidents and investigations.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.

To be considered for this role you must have the following experience and skill set:

  • Demonstrable experience working within Track Engineering in a similar role.
  • IEng qualified.
  • Ideally have Track handback Level 4
  • Stressing of Plain Line and S&C – Level 1-3
  • Confident communication skills, both in writing and in internal and external correspondence.
  • Experience of managing a team of people.
  • Ability to operate effectively in the site environment.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Experience at team working/collaborating.
