JOB DESCRIPTION

Software Engineering Manager focuses on technological solution delivery by guiding and inspiring strong coding practices and solid software design decisions. Software Engineering Manager exhibits a mix of technical acumen, strategy, and vision, along with the ability to cultivate and grow technical talent. Assists with cross-team strategic efforts, influencing decisions to achieve efficient delivery of business value. Understands cross-team technical roadmaps, advocating new product abilities based on technical strategy and constraints. Builds meaningful relationships with business and technology stakeholders; effectively partners to remove organizational obstacles and guide cross-team strategic efforts. Fosters a culture of empowerment, engineering excellence, and growth.

What You will do

  • Knowledge and background in Payments industry, primarily credit card issuing and processing.
  • You will be responsible for leading teams in architecting and implementing high performing software applications in both mainframe and newer technologies.
  • Responsible for application performance, mainframe applications and integration across multiple applications.
  • Work cross functionally with Product, Design, QA and other partner teams to deliver well-engineered experiences that delight customers.
  • Manage technical projects or programs, working closely with product managers, engineers, and technical staff to develop and track release milestones and schedules for the many moving parts that need to come together. Develop a plan and schedule with well-defined milestones.
  • You will own release schedules in our fast-paced environment.
  • Manage communication of progress/status within the core team and external to the team; escalate issues as necessary.
  • Assess the quality of releases through monitoring of incoming bugs and code changes to identify quality issues and trends.
  • Develop tools and processes to improve software engineering productivity.

    The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there’s an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days. Hub locations would include Brookfield, WI., Minneapolis, MN., Denver, CO., Atlanta, GA., Irving, TX.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Six to eight years of relevant technical experience
  • Five or more years of leading a software engineering team

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Strong people management skills including mentoring and coaching engineers of all skill levels.
  • Work cross functionally with Product, Design, QA and other partner teams to deliver well-engineered experiences that delight customers.
  • Experience leading in agile development teams.
  • Strong estimation and resource planning skills.
  • Experience coordinating multiple streams of work and plan releases.
  • Ability to interact with Business line leaders and develop consensus and obtain buy in.
