ENGINEERING & PROJECTS CORPORATE DIRECTOR
Location: Greater Toronto Area, ability to travel to various Hotels within the portfolio
Silver Hotel Group is currently recruiting for an Engineering & Projects Corporate Director Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Engineering & Projects Corporate Director plays a critical role in driving engineering excellence, managing projects effectively, and contributing to the overall success of the organization. The position requires travel to the Hotels in SHG’s portfolio.
The ideal candidate acts as the prime engineering resource for the Maintenance Managers, Chief Engineers, and GMs of those properties. Acts as a leader, guide, and mentor to Property Engineering Managers and projects team.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the physical plant at all properties in the region including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems in accordance with local codes and regulations and to the AHJ satisfaction.
- Administers service contracts to support property needs.
- Oversees training of engineering teams across all properties with a focus on preventive maintenance, procedures, equipment, and life safety.
- Oversee routine inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
- Coaches and supports engineering managers to effectively manage controllable expenses (e.g., wages, heat, light and power, water consumption, tools and equipment, grounds keeping supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, inventory).
- Oversees strategies to manage and control heat, light, and power usage across properties.
- Oversees execution of long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans for each property.
- Trains and oversees execution of CMMS Program, “Transcendent”, and reviews regularly with GMs and above-property leadership.
- Communicates a clear and consistent message regarding each property’s departmental goals to produce desired results.
- Works with properties to determine how Engineering is performing against budget and highlights areas of concern.
- Resolves maintenance issues which constantly cause guest problems and complaints.
- Actively manage multiple projects varied from small, medium to large scale projects throughout the project life cycle.
- Lead the Initiation, planning, execution and closer of various projects within the region, including renovations, upgrades, and new installations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes, objectives, and timelines.
- Initiate and Manage procurement process including tendering, negotiation, and contract management for various projects.
- Coordinate with external contractors, vendors, and suppliers to obtain competitive bids and manage project contracts.
- Ensures compliance with provincial, Municipal, and federal regulations.
- Maintains property life safety systems (e.g., fire-fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems).
- Reviews building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications for each property and updates documentation as needed.
- Assists in developing and overseeing Engineering budgets.
- Manages areas of operation to budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll reports.
- Reviews financial reports and statements to determine how Engineering is performing against budget for each property.
- Ensures fair and equitable treatment of team members.
- Takes steps to see that disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to policy/standards/local law.
- Utilizes team member feedback and an “open door” policy to identify and address problems or concerns in a timely manner.
- Celebrates successes by publicly recognizing the contributions of team members.
