WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e., Engineering Technology – Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing or Electrical) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering design principles, methods and practices with specific knowledge of the mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment utilized in revenue handling and security equipment, combined with a strong knowledge of the microprocessor and logic circuitry and machine language software used in this type of equipment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and be able to develop procedures for the diagnoses and correction of failures with revenue handling and security equipment
  • Possess sound judgement and well-developed analytical, design, testing, costing, problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, technical report writing and drafting skill
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles, methods and practices with specific knowledge of their application to Fare collection equipment
  • Assess, test, review and monitor hardware and software performance and arrange for appropriate corrective measures.
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license for the Province of Ontario.
  • Strong working knowledge of: Solidworks, Maximo, MS Office and other relevant software applications related to the work.
  • O.A.C.E.T.T. certification as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist is an asset.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As an Engineering Technologist, you will provide engineering and technical support and expertise to those involved in the procurement, inspection, diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, overhaul, rebuilding, designing, improving and supporting of all operating systems and equipment associated with their specific area; ensuring requirements and standards are met; conducts operational tests, quality inspections, technical problem solving, equipment performance reviews, staging and commissioning Fare collection equipment, quality assurance activities, work method development and database administration; creates, revises and administers technical documentation; works at other sites, both indoors and outdoors and is involved in training initiatives.
Moreover, you will diagnose, correct and eliminate non-routine complex failures on area specific systems; investigate and correct unusual, difficult or repeating problems on equipment; correct deficiencies with work methods, job plans, procedures, modifications etc.; diagnose and coordinate repairs on equipment, systems or structures; ensure stabilization of failures and determines the cause; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards; suggest solutions or modifications; provide direction as required; and plan, perform and coordinate preventative maintenance checks and services on equipment, systems, and structures, and ensure techniques have been applied according to written procedures, standards and best practices.
You will ensure equipment, systems or structures are fully operational by coordinating and/or performing relevant checks, and other relevant inspections; and develop and/or modify tests under direction, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards; provide technical guidance and advice on selection and purchase of equipment, systems or structures, service requirements, specialized training requirements, safety issues and incidents, and other issues related to area of specialty.

WHAT YOU WILL DO CONT’D

You will prepare various written reports, test reports, modification instructions, repair and diagnosis techniques, and analyses (e.g., cost, life cycle, commonality) as well as general, technical and occasionally budgetary correspondence related to assignments; conduct QA inspections and verify parts received to ensure they are to spec and quality.
You will also prepare and review mechanical designs, specifications and CADD drawings for systems related to fare collection and other mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; update TTC design manuals, standard drawings and prepare detailed contract drawings; maintain and update existing drawings utilizing Solidworks; prepare analysis and design calculations to determine final designs; research and incorporate relevant codes and standards associated with the work, including but not limited to; National Building Code, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, American National Standards Institute/American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Canadian Standards Association, Electrical Safety Code and TTC Design Manuals; review proposals, contract documents and technical reports prepared by TTC staff and/or outside consultants, and commenting on accuracy, completeness, maintainability, constructability and compliance with TTC requirements, standards and applicable codes; support administration of design review process; and research, develop, produce and deliver suitable training programs for employees on departmental Standard Operating Procedures and other assigned topics; prepare training materials, documents and records.
