WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?
- A college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Mechanical or Civil Engineering), or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- OACETT Certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technician (C.Tech.) is considered an asset.
- You have a valid Province of Ontario non-probationary Class “G” driver’s license, and may be required to use a personal vehicle on occasion to travel to different project/work sites.
- You have strong knowledge of mechanical and/or civil technical principles, methods and practices with a proven ability to use tools, equipment in order to log and process data.
- Knowledge of the principles associated with design, analysis and maintenance of railways and/or roadways is an asset.
- You are proficient in the use of related software and applications, particularly as they relate to CAD (MicrosStation); Experience with Solidworks is considered an asset.
- You have demonstrated organizational and planning skills, with the ability to communicate effectively through a variety of mediums with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Design & Standards, you will provide engineering and field support to both capital project and operations teams to ensure our streetcar track network and systems are safe, reliable, efficient and in compliance with standards. You will conduct track walks and site inspections, condition surveys, quality control activities, and provide evidence, data, and reports to support your findings.
Other responsibilities of your role will include:
- Using specialized tools and measurement instruments to complete technical assignments related to the maintenance, inspection, measurement, testing, improvement, and repair of our streetcar track network.
- Laying out and preparing designs and drawings for various projects in accordance with TTC design standards, applicable codes, and instructions from our team of Engineers.
- Reviewing and interpreting existing conditions, drawings, specifications, and material submissions, and obtaining information to ensure accuracy and adherence with requirements.
- Inspecting TTC facilities, track, or construction project sites to monitor progress and ensure that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and that completed work adheres to safety standards.
- Investigating and troubleshooting operational issues, conducting defect analysis, providing engineering solutions, and assessing changes in procedures, designs, or materials.
- Diagnosing, correcting, and eliminating complex failures and non-routine problems by determining root causes.
- Identifying and measuring rail corrugation, rolling contact fatigue, wheel flats, etc. and recommending corrective actions.
- Creating and maintaining manuals, documentation, databases, spreadsheets, and records to provide robust project status and progress reports.
