  • Lead a dedicated team to deliver high-quality English language programs for asylum seekers
  • Make a real difference in the lives of individuals seeking refuge by providing essential language support

Minimum commitment: 6 months
Days and hours required per week: 5 hours a week. Days negotiable.
Location: Majority of hours can be completed remotely online with some face to face engagement with volunteer teachers required at Newtown.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role is Second In Charge (2IC) to the Team Leader English Language Program and provides coverage as needed of the following Team Leader tasks:

  • Implement English Program Intake, Language Assessment and Class Allocation processes
  • Refer prospective students to approved external service providers as required
  • Build a collegial relationship with a team of volunteer, qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and support them with additional ESL resources, information, and troubleshooting
  • Support Line Manager to facilitate regular meetings with the teaching team
  • Collaborate with Line Manager to collect and record student and facilitator feedback for the purposes of continuously improving the English program, including an annual survey
  • Contribute to English Service Map by adding information about new or changing English service providers that might be of benefit to people seeking asylum.
  • Escalate internal referrals to Line Manager when students require support beyond their language needs
  • Meet regularly with Line Manager providing quality, timely updates
  • Promptly raise any concerns pertaining to client or teacher welfare with Line Manager
  • Other as reasonably requested by Line Manager.
