Description:

The ENT Directorate The ENT Department at Stepping Hill provides a comprehensive 7-day ENT service for patients across Stockport and the High Peaks. Outpatient activity is delivered through ENT facilities at Stepping Hill and Buxton. The clinic is fully equipped with facilities with modern fibre-optic flexible and rigid nasendoscopy and video monitors. All in-patient activity takes place at Stepping Hill Hospital, with elective admissions being processed through the short-stay surgical unit.
Emergency admissions are admitted to designated surgical wards. Current areas of focus Recovery of services following the Covid-19 pandemic Focus on new pathways, service redesign and new ways of working following Covid-19 pandemic Continued focus on quality and improved outcomes for all ENT patients, with particular emphasis on morbidity rates, PROMS, achievement of best practice and day case tariffs, and several other quality measures. Review and implementation of GIRFT (Getting it Right First Time) recommendations Ensuring the Trust achieves / makes improvements against the patient access standards Ensuring value for money and deliver cost savings on the procurement of theatre equipment Ensuring optimum use of theatre capacity and scheduling Consultant Colleagues in the ENT Directorate Mr. M.

As well as taking part in ward rounds, working in clinic and attending theatre, we expect the appointee to contribute to the betterment of the department.
This may involve audit, quality improvement projects, and research. As a Specialty Doctor we will encourage you to act as a mentor, and coach to some of the more junior members of the department. There are ample opportunities for personal and professional development. The appointee should expect that sessions may be re-allocated from time to time to fit in with alterations in circumstances.
This may include changes in staffing, introduction of new services, expansion or reduction of existing services and implementation and review of District Annual Programmes. The appointee will be expected to work flexibly within the needs of the service. Theatre sessions will be allocated fairly within the department, with appropriate supervision as deemed necessary. Outpatient clinics, usually in conjunction with one of the Consultant ENT Surgeons.
However there may be occasions when the appointee will be required to undertake outpatient clinics without direct supervision. Deputising for absent colleagues in theatres, wards and outpatient clinics and other areas, as necessary, at a level commensurate with the appointee’s experience and ENT capability. Organisation of Administration There is a well-established Clinical Directorate system within the Trust; Dr. Andrew Loughney is the Medical Director for the Trust.
The Clinical Lead for Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) is Mr. Vivek Kaushik. The Clinical Lead is accountable to the Chief Executive of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust The Director for the Surgical, GI, and Critical Care Business Group is Mrs. Karen Hatchell.
The Associate Medical Director for the Business Group is Miss. Natasha Henley. Academic The Trust has a positive attitude towards and encourages participation of its Consultants in continuing professional development to which the Trust provides time and funding for this purpose. The appointee is expected to participate in CPD and fulfill college requirements.
Teaching The hospital undertakes clinical teaching of medical undergraduates from Manchester and students may visit the Trust/Department on an ad hoc basis. This has helped to establish and maintain close links with the Medical School. The successful candidate will be expected to offer teaching to junior doctors, medical students and other health professionals within the Trust as well as contributing to clinical meetings. From time to time the appointee may be asked to teach other professional groups.
The Integrated Education Centre has greatly enhanced the postgraduate education facilities. Many lunchtime meetings are held at present in which the appointee would be expected to take a full and active part. Quality and Audit There is an active clinical audit department which comes under the department of clinical effectiveness and evaluation unit (CEEU) with quarterly inter-departmental meetings at which there is regular medical input. The department is also involved in its own internal audit and more extensive inter-departmental audit is a regular ongoing exercise.
Research In response to recent national and regional changes of the NHS Research and Development funding, Stockport Foundation NHS Trust is currently developing an integrated R & D Strategy and R & D information and support infrastructure. It should be noted that a Research and Development fund exists within the Trust and that a Research and Development Co-ordinator and Committee, chaired by a Consultant Epidemiologist, exists to help those with a research interest. The successful candidate ideally should have an interest in research and be prepared to play a role in developing and contributing to R & D initiatives within the Department. Experience in protocol development, applying for both non-commercial and commercial R & D funding and disseminating the results of R & D are highly desirable, as is an interest in undertaking collaborate R & D projects with other NHS providers.
A willingness to take a lead in implementing the findings of R & D in clinical practice is welcome and the successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to debate within the Department on methods for enhancing the effectiveness of the services delivered. Job Plan The Clinical Lead and Divisional Manager are responsible for the review of the job plan in conjunction with the post-holder. The job plan will be based on the rolling 1:6 weekly timetable - The formal job plan will be agreed with the appointee and their Clinical Lead, on behalf of the Medical Director, after the commencement date of the appointee. This will be signed by the Chief Executive and will then be reviewed annually, following an Appraisal Meeting.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13
