Description:

Uses advanced enterprise risk management concepts and organization objectives to resolve highly complex and diverse issues. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. May serve as subject matter expert or project manager.
This position advises stakeholders across UCSF on highly complex construction and regulatory compliance matters and educates stakeholders on loss control and best practices to ensure UCSF preserves a high level of safety and protection across the campus and medical center while reducing risk and potential liability exposure. This position also fulfills the applicable legal, financial, information security and regulatory requirements on behalf of UCSF; performs project management for risk-related matters related to construction and safety; identifies and analyzes critical issues and implements or recommends solutions; designs and drafts complex loss control and site-specific safety plans for large complex construction projects; conducts site visits; and consults and advises stakeholders regarding all Federal & State Safety Compliance regulations including OSHA, NFPA, JCAHO, enforcement, data & statistics and training. The position also provides risk consultation encompassing lab safety, facility & investment needs, and emergency preparedness.
In addition, the ERM Analyst is responsible for administering auto and property claims and managing processes and policies related to auto and premises liability.
The ERM Level 4 Analyst operates autonomously and works with a team of professionals, partnering with other risk management team members to develop and implement best practices. The position requires knowledge of enterprise risk management concepts, commercial insurance principles, and claims management practices, particularly those related to construction, safety, property, and auto.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Office of Risk Advisory and Insurance Services is responsible for identifying and developing strategies to minimize the impact of risk through efficient stewardship of financial, operational, and strategic resources. By strategically managing risk, we can mitigate loss, create greater economic stability, and protect our most valuable resource, our community, in support of UCSF’s mission of public service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area such Business, Public Administration, Finance or Law and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Four years of experience in construction-related loss control, risk management, and claims processing.
  • Effective project management skills, including the ability to track, manage, and meet multiple transactions/projects/deadlines in a high-volume position.
  • Advanced knowledge in the following areas: risk management; construction, safety, and premises liability; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge of organizational processes and procedures; understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
  • Advanced ability to develop course materials and deliver content effectively to diverse populations. Ability to work collaboratively with other universities, UC campuses, and UC System Offices.
  • Experience in management by influence, facilitation, and consensus-building
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessing and negotiating insurance requirements related to operational and construction risk. Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, negotiation and persuasion, and effective team leadership skills, with experience performing both detailed and executive-level documentation.
  • In-depth ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing. Ability to understand, interpret, and clearly communicate matters of policy and law to multiple constituencies, including faculty, staff, and third-party entities
  • Advanced ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Safety Professional
  • Strong understanding of the risks specific to academic environments. Robust knowledge of the UC system preferred, including its infrastructure, mission, policies, guidelines, etc.
  • Direct experience administering and supporting risk management and insurance functions in higher education and/or academic research
