Description:
Do you like processing and analyzing samples in an indoor lab environment?
If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!
The purpose of this position is to provide support to Environment and Waste Technologies branch with sample processing and analysis in the laboratory. The incumbent will be part of a team of environmental scientists and hydrogeochemists focusing on the technical objectives of environmental research. A successful candidate will also be expected to assume the role of a lab supervisor, maintaining the lab capabilities, procedures, and QA records.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance in environmental tritium and C-14 research, and laboratory analyses of various environmental samples.
- Operate and maintain various analytical instruments, including Quantulus liquid scintillation counter, Oxidizer, CH Analyzer, Labconco Freeze-dryer, etc.
- Propose, implement, and perform experiments to obtain data as directed, but without detailed supervision.
- Contribute to development and commissioning of new systems for low level radiochemical analyses.
- Carrying out routine lab operations: housekeeping, purchase orders, procedure updates, QA/QC records.
- May be required to participate in various activities as a member of CRL’s environmental emergency response team (training will be provided).
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in chemistry or environmental science, or equivalent formal education plus relevant experience.
- Normally has six (6) to eight (8) years of pertinent technological experience, specifically experience working in a laboratory environment involving chemical preparations and analyses using established procedures.
- Experience with specialized radioanalytical equipment and techniques for environmental radiochemical applications would be an asset (Carbon-14 and tritium specifically).
- General understanding of electrochemical systems and electrolysis process.
- Knowledge of water chemistry or hydrogeology as it pertains to groundwater.
- Must show initiative, and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Must possess good judgement, place field and lab safety first, have a questioning attitude and be proactive.
