New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

Position Reports To: Environmental Superintendent
Position Overview
This position will be an integral component of the environmental team in providing operational compliance support, technical knowledge, and environmental leadership for the New Afton Mine.
Key Responsibilities
Effectively track regulatory and Indigenous agreement obligations, and engage with various operational representatives to maintain compliance;
Work in a team environment to manage environmental risk across the site;
Support the maintenance and implementation of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001 and Towards Sustainable Mining based), inclusive of environmental leadership and operational inspections;
Support the compilation of annual regulatory reports;
Support the coordination of meetings and engagement events with regulators and Indigenous Nations;
Coordinate cross-disciplinary inputs to support permitting applications, including internal stakeholder engagement;
Support the transition and implementation of project regulatory approvals within operations teams;
Other responsibilities as per the business requirement.
Qualifications
A degree in Environmental Sciences or relevant discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience.
Experience in engaging with Indigenous Nations and stakeholders
Operational risk management experience
Experience in heavy industry is considered an asset
Familiarity with applicable BC laws and regulations, such as the Mines Act and Environmental Management Act, environmental management practices and technical report writing
Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic work environment
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to compile effective presentations and relay complex technical information to various stakeholders.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s license.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
Completion of pre-placement functional screen
Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $70,000 to $85,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
