Job Description
The Environmental Compliance Specialist role will provide environmental compliance support to the sites within the North American region (US & Canada). This role will facilitate the integration and adoption of environmental compliance activities, procedures, and reporting requirements for the North American sites. In addition, the Environmental Compliance Specialist will work closely with site Operations teams to address any non-compliance and develop Corrective Action Plans, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Promote environmental compliance including training, auditing and maintaining permit compliance
  • Develop, summarize and communicate environmental obligations across leadership team
  • Identify, evaluate and mitigate environmental risks and regulatory changes affecting company activities from initial due diligence through execution and operation
  • Completes State/Federal/Local environmental compliance reporting-included but not limited to the following: TRI, Tier II, Air Emissions, Hazardous Waste
  • Build strong relationship with permitting and regulatory agencies
  • Lead detailed Environmental Impact Assessments and supporting technical studies including noise assessments, air emissions modelling and ecology surveying where required
  • Manage early environmental due diligence activities where required
  • Provide environmental expertise to diverse internal teams and coordinate with other internal stakeholders about relevant issues and requirements
  • Stay current on changes in environmental policies and regulations to assess and mitigate the risks to the company activities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from college or university
  • Experience
  • 5+ years in preparing and managing environmental permit applications and processes (including supporting documentation)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education or Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
  • Exceptional presentation, project planning skills, delivery execution and oral and written communication skills
  • Strong management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize effectively and provide direction to highly skilled individuals within the department
  • Must be able to function well in a fast-paced environment under demanding deadlines and changing priorities and conditions
  • Must be responsive and have excellent attention to detail skills
  • Technical Skills
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of permitting timelines, regulatory processes
  • Knowledge of State/Federal/Local Environmental legislation
  • Environmental Management System requirements as per ISO 14001 or alternative standard
  • Experience completing State/Federal/Local environmental compliance reporting – including but not limited to the TRI, Tier II, Air Emissions, Hazardous Waste
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Metrics and data driven. Must be able to interpret and speak with data.

Responsibilities:

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically (up to 25% of time), internationally (up to 10% of time).
