Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Data Management Specialist to work with our team of consulting scientists and engineers in addressing our client’s data management needs in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will work with new and existing clients and team members to deliver technical work products for our projects. The candidate will manage and develop databases and other tools to compile, visualize and analyze data from a variety of streaming and static sources; and assist with the design, development, and implementation of new products and services for our clients. With support from senior team members, the successful candidate will grow their career by providing mentoring, training, and quality reviews for early-career data management team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designing, developing, and managing project-specific relational database applications (e.g., EarthSoft EQuIS, MS SQL Server),
  • Managing and organizing datasets for the entire lifecycle of environmental data, from planning to final reporting activities,
  • Providing QA/QC on data, systems, and processes related to environmental data,
  • Developing and executing comprehensive workflows including ETL processes to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to reporting tools,
  • Compiling, verifying, analyzing, and reporting large and diverse datasets (including large legacy datasets),
  • Reviewing and querying databases for data quality and completeness,
  • Supporting early-career data management professionals by providing training, delegating tasks, and reviewing data deliverables,
  • Interacting with internal and external clients to support database management and data visualization for environmental and geoscience projects.

Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, geology, or related field. (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of related work experience in a similar role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with database management and building ETL processes. (required)
  • Understanding of scientific concepts (e.g., chemistry, unit conversions, introductory statistics). (required)
  • Experience with environmental data (e.g., field sampling approaches, quality control samples, frequently required calculations, ability to read field forms and laboratory reports, understanding of data verification and validation processes).(required)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented, with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and translate requests from site assessors/risk assessors for earlier career colleagues.
  • Ability to review data deliverables prepared by self and others to ensure quality.
