JOB SUMMARY:

Ensure that industrial operations are aware of and comply with the changing regulations. Compile & prepare environmental reports to regulators and track environmental metrics. Work with the multi-disciplinary plant team providing regulatory support on plant improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES:

  • Must have a degree in Environmental, Chemical or Process Engineering, or equivalent.
  • The candidate is eligible for registration as an EIT with APEGA to obtain their P.Eng.
  • A technical aptitude is required to learn and understand the technical aspect of the operation.
  • 1 to 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing setting is an asset.
  • Candidate should be detail-oriented.
  • Must be well organized and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines.
  • You have excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • You possess a can-do attitude and are willing to learn and develop your technical knowledge to solve problems.
  • Are not averse to taking the hands-on approach and willing to spend time in the field learning about the process and identifying issues to improve performance
  • Can effectively communicate information to your audiences.
  • Can analyze environmental data/trends and make recommendations to solve problems.
  • Must be able to work in office, field and manufacturing environments.
  • Competent with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • A team player –able to work on cross-functional collaborative teams to find solutions and influence decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Manager, Sustainability and Environment
  • Works closely with Production, Process and Maintenance departments.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a safe work environment; understand the organization’s safety objectives and support these efforts.
  • Compile data and prepare regulatory reports for submission.
  • Conduct regular environmental site audits
  • Prepare reports to local government, provincial and federal regulators.
  • Support the implementation of company sustainability initiatives and the associated internal reporting and disclosure of sustainability data.
  • Supervise engineering consultants and help plan, coordinate and oversee the work of external contractors.
  • Working with production, maintenance and process to assist as needed on various projects
  • Provide support on special environmental projects, permitting and field measurements.
  • Raise environmental awareness at the plant level while tracking and communicating improvements.
  • Manage environment data used in reports.
  • Prepare annual, quarterly & month-end reports (air, dust, water).
  • Support continuous emission monitor systems (CEMS) and reporting.
  • Coordinate the compliance stack testing, RATA and CGA testing with contractor and operations.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of environmental management systems.
  • Conduct internal audits (Dust, Acoustical, compliance) and/or management consultants.
  • Oversee spill prevention and spill response, and develop training for workers.
  • Assist in developing new environmental operating procedures.
  • Oversee external contractors on environmental projects.
