Our three surface mines, Brule, Willow Creek, and Wolverine, position us as key players in serving customers across South America, Europe, and Asia. This role is based at our Tumbler Ridge office, and successful candidates will be expected to reside in the area in order to support our on-site operations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or a closely related field.
- P.Eng. designation.
- At least 5-7 years’ relevant profession experience.
- At least 2 years’ experience in an open pit mining environment.
- Comprehensive grasp of core environmental engineering principles, including water treatment, mining, reclamation, mitigation, and site-specific concerns.
- Proficiency in navigating both small-scale regional regulations and global environmental impact models.
- Aptitude for designing facilities, management systems, and conducting impact assessments.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
- Ability to adhere to a 5x2 schedule with 8-hour shifts.
- Proficiency in environmental regulatory compliance and sustainability practices.
- Skilled in environmental impact assessments, mitigation planning, and reporting.
- Experienced with environmental software tools for modeling and analysis.
- Knowledge of water treatment, waste management, and pollution control in a mining context.
- GIS competency for environmental data mapping and analysis.
- Effective at drafting environmental documentation and permits.
- Cross-functional project management abilities to integrate environmental aspects into engineering projects.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with teams and stakeholders.
- On-site environmental monitoring and solution implementation experience.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Project and Mine Development teams on diverse tasks, ensuring environmental quality criteria are met.
- Contribute to the permitting process and assist in compliance tracking and reporting.
- Collaborate with colleagues to gain a comprehensive understanding of the field, including planning, design, operations, and safety.
- Design, develop, and implement environmental management plans, emphasizing practical real world solutions.
- Monitor and assess industrial sites for compliance with environmental regulations.
- Evaluate current systems, integrating innovations or pioneering new technologies to enhance environmental protection.
- Draft and review environmental impact statements, aligning them with both regional and global environmental insights.
- Apply expertise in policy development, engineering design, and construction to projects.
- Work closely with various teams, ensuring environmental considerations are at the forefront of business and project decisions.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
