Reporting to the Supervisor, EHS & Training, the EHS Specialist will assist with the EHS program and contribute towards a strong safety culture within the workplace. The ideal candidate is not only eager to support the program but improve upon it when needed.

SKILLS/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities in a professional and timely manner
  • Strong written communication skills to accurately articulate events, results, issues, mitigating actions, etc. to both internal and external audiences
  • Strong with MS Office suite
  • Ability to interact with all levels of personnel

Experience

  • 3-5 years directly related industrial experience preferred
  • 2 years experience in EH&S activities will be considered a strong asset
  • Level 1, 2 or 3 First Aid responder will be considered an asset

Education

  • OHS Certificate or Diploma from a recognized institution OR the ability to achieve the credential within 12 months

Expected Salary Range: $45,000 - 55,000 CA

Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with applicable supervisors to conduct ergonomic assessments.
  • Identify, evaluate, and document hazardous conditions and practices within the workplace through Hazard Risk Assessments and other inspections.
  • Facilitate and oversee the Respirator program; including identifying and managing candidates, providing access to online training, and conducting fit testing.
  • Assist and conduct EHS audits in alignment with ISO 45001
  • Assist in accident/incident investigations.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets are in place for all hazardous materials used onsite.
  • Conduct air sample/surface wipe tests and noise testing as required.
  • Reviews legislation and ensure compliance to current EHS program.
  • Provide input into EHS procedures and policies and assist in the maintenance and development of EHS communications and training where required.
  • Participates in identifying EHS goals and objectives with the team.
  • Orient new employees to the EHS onboarding program when required.
  • Effectively communicate EHS programs and initiatives.
  • Monitor EHS test results and data (EHS Jira tasks, metrics, etc.) to identify trends and to escalate unsafe conditions.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of programs designed to improve EHS performance.
  • Observe process, equipment, and workplace conditions and report discrepancies.
  • Advise workers on proper safety protocols, safety regulations, and any other Provincial or Federal regulations.
  • Perform other assignments as requested.
