Responsibilities:
Would you like to work in one of the largest Private Housing Services in England and help improve Bristol’s private rented sector housing standards?
Bristol is a vibrant city, with nearly 30% of Bristol’s population living in the private rented sector.
The Private Housing Service is currently preparing to expand its licensing teams with a new scheme starting in August 2024 creating a fantastic opportunity to join one of our licensing teams.
There is also a position available in the team which responds to service requests in rented properties that are not required to be licensed.
Your role will range from:
- Advice and guidance to landlord tenants and agents
- Programmed inspection of licensed properties
- Investigation and resolution of service requests
- Compliance checks against schedules of works
- Enforcement ranging from informal to formal notices
- Investigation of offences and use of Civil Penalty and Prosecution powers
Level 1 (Up to £36,648) A CIEH-accredited degree in Environmental Health (either 3-year BSc or 2-year MSc) and a good knowledge of the main elements of environmental health housing legislation and good practice.
Level 2 (Up to £39,186) – As level 1 and significant post-qualification environmental health housing experience of inspections, scheduling and informal engagement and some involvement in formal legal processes. A basic knowledge of residential tenancy legislation.
Senior (Up to £43,321) – As level 1 or (A Bristol City Council recognised qualification in Environmental Health Housing on the technical and legal aspects of Environmental Health Housing (or BCC ‘Surveyor A’ course and assessment)) and a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of environmental health housing legislation, good practice and housing construction. Substantial post-qualification environmental health housing experience of inspections, scheduling and informal engagement and formal legal processes. A basic knowledge of residential tenancy legislation.
In addition to property licensing, the Private Housing Service is responsible for the full range of private-sector housing issues including, empty-homes, public health related service requests, policy and technical support. There may be opportunities in the future to work in these different areas.
