SUMMARY

The Environmental Manager is responsible for the development, coordination, and maintenance of the environmental programs, processes, and procedures that assure compliance with Simplot Policies and Federal, State, and Local regulations. This individual is a member of the Site Leadership Team with responsibility for oversight and support of a team of environmental professionals responsible for maintaining compliance with environmental regulations and permits.

TYPICAL EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Environmental Engineering or related field

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years related experience. Previous experience working in a large complex industrial environment preferred.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental laws including Land Application of wastewaters, Title V Operating Permits, Risk Management Program, RCRA Large Quantity Generator, CERCLA, and Food Safety Modernization Act.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to communicate environmental requirements, performance, and needed actions to all levels of stakeholders (operations, management, corporate). Effective user of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) required.
  • 5+ years of effectively managing and leading teams; exhibits confidence in self and others; inspires and motivates others to perform well; influences the actions and opinions of others; and can effectively delegate.
  • Must be capable and willing to respond to environmental emergencies during off-shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to accurately define problems, collect data, interpret analytical results, draw valid conclusions, and make reasonable recommendations to upper management that support the production goals of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction on maintaining compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations. Stays current on compliance status of all environmental programs, suggests corrective actions/improvements, and ensures issues are tracked to resolution. Stays apprised of developments in the regulatory arena and provides guidance on necessary updates to programs.
  • Responsible for management, support, and development of environmental staff, including setting and communication of department and individual goals, and providing regular performance to staff members. Assists and/or leads environmental staff with interpreting, communicating, and applying regulatory requirements to operations and ensures effective utilization of personnel.
  • Interacts with regulatory personnel regarding permitting and compliance matters. Works with public relations team on community and NGO interactions.
  • Develops preliminary and final budgets. Reconciles expenses at the end of each period. Develops cost control measures and seeks out competitive pricing.
  • Must be able to accurately define problems, collect data, interpret analytical results, draw valid conclusions, and make reasonable recommendations to upper management that support the environmental and final goals of the company.
  • Ensure operations, maintenance and project activities are meeting compliance requirements and following best practices to support the site environmental goals through field inspections on a regular basis.
