Description:

The primary duties of this position include the management of all aspects of environmental compliance (HAZMAT). The candidate will work as a Compliance Manager for all Canadian operations. This includes continuously improving compliance measures, managing operational permits, advancing training initiatives, and driving major compliance projects forward, while exemplifying our vision and values.
The successful candidate will be an extremely high energy, well-organized team player, with the ability to juggle multiple projects, working cross-functionally to ensure quality work is being executed.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5+ professional years of experience working in a similar role
  • Candidate must be detail oriented, able to exercise sound judgment, and observe the highest degree of confidentiality in the handling of information received during this position
  • Interpreting, applying, and explaining applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, including experience interacting with senior managers
  • Strong decision-making, solid judgment, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills
  • Assessing risks and hazards and making effective recommendations for action and correction
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and execute work to meet critical deadlines
  • Self-starter with ability to work with limited supervision
  • Making oral presentations to small and midsize groups
  • Intermediate/advanced level in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Travel approximately 20%
  • French speaking advantageous

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, along with management in support of Compliance processes and practices.
  • Enviornmental operation compliance, project managment experience,
  • Advise lines of business and support departments on application of Environmental Compliance requirements, such as: new products, process development, regulatory requirements, development of controls and monitoring, remediation/corrective action of compliance breakdowns, and change in law or regulation.
  • Manage and work through hazardous material permits and licensing reports in Canada.
  • Coordinate with various regulating agencies for transportation and site permits and updates, as required, as well as follow up with reports and required regulatory agency submissions.
  • Regulatory communications and lobbying (negotiation skills required)
  • Manage compliance related projects, monitor project progress, set deadlines, and solve issues that arise
  • Response to medical and hazardous waste inquiries from business (sales, ops, business management, etc.).
  • Handling regulatory audits for Canada.
  • Conducts risk assessment, auditing, monitoring and other Compliance department activities
  • Ensure ongoing compliance and interpretation to internal procedures
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies/procedures
  • Develop, support and promote Compliance initiatives and processes for the advancement of the Department
  • Supports compliance training and communication development including content creation, audience identification, and completion tracking
