This position supports carrying out the CNL Environmental Remediation Project initiatives at CNL. The position plans and communicates with internal groups to ensure sound environmental remediation practices, approaches and standards are used in our work.
Specific tasks will include preparing and leading Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments of CNL sites, interpreting laboratory analytical results, report writing, supporting workshops, improvement action training, development of new processes, and updating processes based on self-assessment, and benchmarking.
What will you be doing !
Participate in assessments of sites and development of characterization and remediation plans
Compile and interpret data from field and analytical data for reports
Prepare technical documents and Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment and Soil Management reports
Leverage experience, knowledge and available data to recommend strategies for remediation of affected lands
Provide support to ensure that plans are in line with the Overview of Decommissioning and Cleanup Plan and applicable standards and regulations
Assist as needed in other work within the Environmental Remediation team

EDUCATION:

At minimum, a Bachelors (Honours) degree in Environmental Sciences or Engineering from a university of recognized standing, or membership in a scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A few years related engineering working experience is desired
Environmental site characterization background is mandatory
Related experience in the field of Environmental Remediation and familiarity with remedial technologies and techniques
Practical working knowledge of the full range of decommissioning and remediation processes applied domestically and internationally is desired
Awareness of standards, regulatory requirements, and best available methodologies in remediation, characterization, and risk assessment as they pertain to nuclear remediation work
Knowledge of Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment guidelines, Ontario Regulation 153/04, Ontario Regulation 558/00, and Ontario Regulation 406/19 is considered an asset
An understanding of soil descriptions and terminology along with a general understanding of soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface monitoring is considered an asset
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Minimum of basic computer skills including working knowledge of MS Office Suite, and familiarity with the use of databases
Excellent technical writing skills
Ability to review technical/scientific documents and disseminate information
Knowledge of literature / studies / reports concerning recommended site characterization and remediation guidelines, risk assessment and modelling, as well as international work in the area of remediation of nuclear sites
Attention to detail for verification of analytical data is required
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Time management, organization and prioritization skills are essential
Ability to understand CNL priorities/strategy
Strong communications skills
Must be Radiation Protection (RP) Group 3 qualified or be able to be RP Group 3 qualified once hired
Related experience in health physics or radiochemistry knowledge is considered an asset
