Overview
RTI International’s Center for Environmental Health, Risk, and Sustainability is looking for a mid-level Research Environmental Scientist to work on community-engaged environmental health and water quality research. Desired experience includes a candidate with an environmental science or public health background, strong communication skills, a detail-oriented mindset, ability to multitask, a zest for learning, and passion for supporting a variety of tasks in a team-based environment to improve the human condition. Job tasks will include supporting our Clean Water for US Kids portfolio of work by managing tasks associated with proposals and projects, conducting outreach, developing technical and educational materials, supporting community participation, working with multidisciplinary researchers on data analysis, hosting webinars, and more.
Responsibilities

THE CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Master’s in environmental science, public health, environmental engineering, analytical chemistry, statistics, or equivalent in a related scientific discipline or equivalent (or Bachelor’s degree and 1 years of experience).
  • Programming expertise in R (required), SQL (required), Python (ideally), HTML (ideally)
  • Experience coordinating studies and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience in collecting, managing, and analyzing data
  • Experience with quality assurance and quality control
  • Experience in literature reviews and data analysis
  • Experience with technical writing, including manuscripts, reports, or grant proposals
  • Knowledge in some or all fields: water quality, chemical contaminants, emerging contaminants, environmental health, toxicology, environmental policy, risk communication, environmental justice, and/or risk assessment

OPTIONAL EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Expertise in lead in water, lead-based paint, asbestos, or PFAS
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing for inorganic or organic contaminants
  • Experience in organizing and conducting webinars and meetings
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations
  • Experience applying for grants
  • Survey design experience
  • Social EQ
  • Experience in community-engaged research
  • Working with child care centers or schools
  • Environmental justice and equity experience

    Equal Pay Act Minimum/Range
    $55,000 - $68,000
