DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Two (2) years of environmental science work experience on either a remote construction of mining site, with arctic knowledge and experience being a significant asset;
  • Diploma in Geology, Environmental Sciences or Engineering;
  • Professional certification through the Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board as an Environment Practitioner-in-training (EPt);
  • Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), and
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analysis software.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular environmental monitoring of air, water, soil, and vegetation around mining sites;
  • Collect and analyzes soils, tundra, waste pit and groundwater samples required for drafting technical reports;
  • Compile and analyze environmental data to assess the impact of mining activities;
  • Assist with the Coordination and the implementation of environmental monitoring (as required by permits and authorizations) and baseline programs required for the environmental assessment and permitting process;
  • Provide support with development and implementation of an environmental management system and ensure adherence to the system;
  • Assist and direct spill response cleanup activities and maintain compliance with permit requirements;
  • Support MLA personnel as it relates to wildlife response activities;
  • Develop and enhance waste management policies and procedures at the MLA. Assist subcontractors with field work;
  • Collaborate with site management in the proper execution of project deliverables and tasks whilst adhering to environmental best practices;
  • Collect and analyzes soils, tundra, waste pit and groundwater samples required for drafting technical reports; and
  • Assists with preparation of additional permits and approvals, or amendments as required.
