Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
BluMetric is looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on, detail-oriented and reliable environmental technician or technologist to join our multidisciplinary team in Sudbury (environmental science, hydrogeology and environmental engineering). The successful candidate will be directly involved in a variety of field activities that may include contaminated site characterization, remediation, hydrogeological investigations, surveying, industrial hygiene monitoring, landfill and industrial site monitoring and mining-related field services.
They should be able to work independently and in a variety of settings (in and out of the office) and have an aptitude for multitasking. A valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation are necessary for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS:
- Environmental Technician/Technologist College Diploma and/or Post Secondary education related to Environmental Sciences, Geology or Equivalent.
- Ability to correctly use and check calibration of field equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
- Experience with Microsoft suite (Word and Excel) – including statistical data manipulation.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
- Must be willing to work in variable climatic conditions and be willing to travel to remote locations and work away from home.
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable means of transportation.
Responsibilities:
- Use field equipment to monitor groundwater levels in monitoring wells.
- Collect water quality samples from groundwater monitoring wells.
- Collect air quality samples from indoor air or soil gas probes.
- Document field activities in field notebook.
- Supervise borehole drilling and the installation of monitoring wells.
- Complete basic borehole logs for review by PM.
- Assist in the collection of soil samples for soil quality and provide textural descriptions.
- Assist with aquifer testing.
- Data entry and QA/QC.
- Assist with proposal and report writing.
- Document review and summarize field tasks.
- Arranging rental of appropriate equipment.
