Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY:

BluMetric (BLM) is currently seeking an Intermediate/Senior Environmental Technologist or Scientist, for the Toronto, Ontario office.
The ideal candidate is expected to plan, coordinate, implement and conduct field work, and support data analysis and reporting tasks. The individual also delegates and oversees the work of field staff and/or teams, provides mentoring to junior technicians, and consults with senior technical and managerial staff. The ideal candidate would have strong communication and organizational skills including the ability to be involved with many projects simultaneously. The individual should be a self-motivated, hands-on, problem solver who takes initiative to find and develop solutions with support from the company, as well as asking questions when in need of guidance.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS:

  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T), or Certified Technician (C. Tech), or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) Membership.
  • Experience in planning and implementing environmental field programs for environmental site assessments (Phase I, II, III), remediation and monitoring of soil, surface water and ground water.
  • Solid practical understanding of geology, physical and chemical hydrogeology, and field methods for contaminated site assessment and remediation.
  • Experience in groundwater and surface water monitoring and sampling procedures, borehole drilling, monitoring well installation, collection of soil, groundwater and surface water samples, and the preparation of borehole logs.
  • Eligibility for a Class 5 Well Technician License (Ontario) is considered an asset (i.e. OACETT Membership).
  • Experience working with subcontractors, including drillers and heavy equipment operators.
  • Familiarity with current health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • General knowledge of applicable environmental Ontario Regulations (O. Reg 153/04, O. Reg 406/19 Excess Soils, etc).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience using Level Survey and/or Global Positioning System equipment.
  • Knowledge of survey techniques.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel with overnight trips being occasionally required, and flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions in all seasons, and potentially challenging weather.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision, implementation, and execution of field programs including but not limited to site assessments, site characterization, site monitoring, spill response and management, excess soil management, and remediation oversight.
  • Support and mentor junior staff with development of environmental field skills.
  • Collaborate with project managers to scope, plan and schedule environmental field programs.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, clients and other project stakeholders to plan, schedule and implement environmental field programs.
  • Prepare digital borehole logs.Ensure field equipment and field notes are maintained and organized, and consumables are stocked.
