An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join the Wessex neurological centre as an Epilepsy nurse specialist. This is an opportunity for a nurse with a good knowledge of epilepsy to join our established team working closely with the neurological Consultants in Southampton. The post holder will be involved in the care of patients managed with medication and those undergoing neurosurgical treatments at both Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and University Hospital Southampton sites.
The post holder will be a key point of contact for patients living with epilepsy offering information, advice and support, as well as providing education to our nursing teams within Wessex neurological centre. As a regional centre, the role will require joint working with the Consultants at UHS and liaising with community services across the region

Responsibilities:

The Band 6 Specialist Nurse is responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care for a defined patient/client group, practicing as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team. Duties will include but not restricted to:

  • Provide specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise to patients and their families/carers affected by epilepsy.
  • Work as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team and at times liaising and acting as a specialist resource across multi-agency specialities.
  • At times be required to work autonomously and therefore we are looking for someone who already has these skills or the confidence to develop these skills
  • Be required to take telephone help line messages and triage patient queries offering support and advice respective to seizure management or on-going care.
