Description:
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
This role supports the Corporate Equalities Officer in the practical application of council equality policy and strategy across all council services. You will provide advice and assistance to a full range of internal services and external partners specifically relating to the council’s equality responsibilities, obligations, policy and strategy.
Using your knowledge and experience of best practice in equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), you will make a difference by directly contributing to the reduction of inequalities and the advancement of equality in all areas of Council work.
This is for a limited term contract for two years.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- We require you to have a good working knowledge of legislation effecting equality including the Equality Act 2010, the Public Sector Equality Duty, the Equality Act (Specific Duties) Regulations and of supporting the preparation of high-quality EqIAAs.
- You will be professionally qualified, at degree level or have the equivalent level of theoretical knowledge or experience.
- It is essential that you demonstrate experience of contributing to work which influences practices and leads to a reduction in inequalities.
- It will be key that you can provide specialist advice, support and guidance on a range of highly complex and sensitive issues to residents, communities, and key decision makers within the organisation.
- You will have advanced communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex, sensitive and contentious information and concepts to a range of stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- You will be a key point of contact in the council for equality issues, analysis and the practical interpretation, application and management of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- It will be your responsibility to work directly with managers, staff and partners at all levels to gain an excellent understanding of systems and practices, as well as information and data held in order to advise and assist in the development of actions to address inequalities.
- Daily you will oversee, advise and assist services in developing Equality Impact Assessment and Analysis (EqIAAs) in accord with legislation and council policy and will maintain and publish a central record of these.
- Regularly, you will carry out audits of compliance with council equality management requirements and will recommend and monitor development actions to be taken where required.
- You will carry out preparation, collation, and quality checks of tools useful for managing equality including the EqIAA process, data analysis, Annual Equality Reports and the council’s equality policies and strategies.
