The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a non-profit, Intergovernmental Organisation funded by 29 member states and 1 associate member state. In 2020 EMBL established a team and a governance structure for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) to develop and implement our EDI strategy, challenging preconceptions and empowering staff of all backgrounds and at all stages of their career.
Now we are seeking a new lead role to support the delivery of EMBL EDI existing Strategic plans within the wider organisation.
Your role
You will be responsible for delivering the strategic direction of EDI across all of EMBL’s sites. This role, will lead a small team and work closely with leadership and staff across EMBL, to deliver and further develop the EMBL EDI strategy plans working in close collaboration with EMBL’s EDI governing body, coordinating its implementation and making evidence-based policy recommendations. Along with your team, you will network outside of EMBL, representing the organisation at meetings, conferences and events to understand best practice in the area of equality and diversity and to bring this back into EMBL.
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, you will chair EMBL’s Equality and Diversity and Inclusion Forum, convening and minuting meetings and coordinating the activities of its networks and working groups. In addition, you will lead on implementing EMBL’s EDI Strategy to deliver a culture where people feel safe and empowered to achieve their full potential.
You will work very closely with the EDI Governing Body, and widely with other colleagues and volunteers across the organisation’s sites to create an inclusive group working towards shared goals.
You will work in close collaboration with colleagues across the Human Resources Team. to develop talent pipelines, diversity metrics and reports; Integrate EDI principles in hiring, onboarding, training, and career development processes; and address any issues that may arise in relation to safety and wellbeing for minority groups in a business.

Contract duration: 5 years (renewable upto 9 years)
Grading: Grade 7 - Monthly salary starting at £3,934 after tax + other paid benefits based on family circumstances

You have
Experience leading on delivering the EDI strategy, able to work in a matrix-structure across a complex, international, multi-site organisation to devise and implement an Equality and Diversity Strategy. You are an enthusiastic team player with flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing equality and diversity landscape and to take on new tasks as and when they occur.

YOU WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

University degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Social Sciences, or a related field
A strong track record of project delivery in the field of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion with an intersectional approach
Possessing an insatiable interest in developments in the field of EDI in relation to intersectionality
Knowledgeable of the applicable laws and regulations related to diversity, equality, and inclusion
Experience in providing expert guidance in EDI to leadership, faculty and staff
Experience in managing a small to medium size team
Numerate and possessing strong skills in the use of Excel and the presentation of data and statistics
Well organised, proactive and focussed on delivery of key tasks
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees at all levels and build a culture of inclusivity
Very good presentation skills
Very good writing skills for the production of reports
Good written and spoken English
Experience working internationally is desirable, though not required
You might also have
Experience in scientific environments
very good working language skills of French and/or German
