What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Supervisor(s) of Operations (Roads/Traffic), and under the direction of the Working Foreperson(s), the Equipment Operator Grade I (Truck Driver) is responsible for:

  • operating and maintaining vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W., including single and tandem axle vehicles, and accessory equipment;
  • loading, hauling and unloading of various materials and supplies;
  • involvement in winter snow operations, including snow removal, sanding/salting and ploughing of roads and sidewalks;
  • involvement in summer road work, including sweeping, shouldering, patching, repairing washouts, maintenance, resurfacing and ditching;
  • ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
  • providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and other members of staff in a courteous manner; and,
  • other duties as assigned.

You are knowledgeable about and work in compliance with all workplace safety regulations, standards, and practices. You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.
What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

  • a secondary school graduation diploma;
  • minimum of one (1) year recent and demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W., including tandem axle trucks;
  • a valid Class “DZ” Driver’s Licence, maintained in good standing;
  • successful completion of Defensive Driving training;
  • the ability to operate various equipment, tools and/or vehicles in a safe and professional manner;
  • strong reasoning, numerical, technical, analytical and researching skills to ensure work is completed safely and accurately; and,
  • physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) in varying weather conditions.

What We Offer You

Union Affiliation: CUPE Full-Time
Hours: Flex hours, including days, afternoons and nights. Forty (40) hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. Flexible hours maybe required during winter control and/or emergency situations.
