Description:
Reporting to the Director, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion & Human Rights and working in collaboration with a team of staff. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Education and Training Officer will promote and support a culture of respect, inclusion and equity through educational and capacity-building initiatives across the University. The successful candidate will have an ability to deliver presentations that are engaging and impactful. They will apply an intersectional and anti-oppressive approach to develop and deliver relevant EDI education, training, and programming across all areas of the University. This position will require flexibility and adaptability, and as this new role becomes established, the successful candidate may be required to take on additional responsibilities at the University consistent with qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lived experience or expertise in diversity and inclusion an asset
- Substantive knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion principles including systemic discrimination
- Demonstrated ability to creatively engage audiences through presentations or equivalent experience
- Superior communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written, and listening)
- Relevant training in trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approaches and demonstrated understanding of working within an intersectional framework
- Experience with initiatives related to eliminating discrimination (through work or volunteer activities)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
- Experience with workplace equity initiatives an asset
- Experience or relationships with equity seeking community organizations, or similar, would be an asset
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or demonstrated equivalency will be considered. All applicants are encouraged to apply
- Minimum three years related experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Microsoft Word and strong command of PowerPoint
- Experience with MyUPEI, Moodle, or Sharepoint would be an asset
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Develop and implement training materials and resources for the campus community to build greater understanding and awareness of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles through multiple modalities, including but not limited to in-person training, online courses, print materials, and social media
- Develop and deliver presentations and other educational materials to educate campus community members about: UPEI Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy, university harassment and discrimination policies, and training related to hiring and promotion processes in compliance with collective agreement obligations
- Coordinate and promote EDI awareness, prevention, and education programs, strategies and initiatives on campus
- Continue to develop online collection of educational materials for members of the campus community related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Collaborating and building relationships internal stakeholder (Campus community) to determine what the EDI training needs are within various departments and working with partners to locate opportunities for training
