The opportunity
Based in Sydney and reporting to the ESG Assurance Manager in this new exciting and varied role, you will partner with multiple groups across QBE globally in relation to the Group’s Sustainability and Climate Reporting and be responsible for assisting in developing our control assurance framework in relation to our ESG related disclosures.
As part of the Group Finance Operational Risk & Assurance team, you will assist in building out our assurance program to support our current and future sustainability and climate related disclosures. Working closely with the Sustainability and Statutory Reporting teams, you will support the development of a robust ESG control environment, keeping pace with emerging standards and requirements in this area.
Your new role

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders across QBE globally, working closely with our Sustainability and Statutory Reporting teams and our front-line business to effectively assess the completeness and accuracy of our sustainability and climate related data.
  • Support the Controls assurance program to align strategic objectives to those of Group Risk, Internal Audit and External Audit.
  • Support the preparation of climate and other sustainability reports from an assurance perspective to ensure compliance with coming regulatory standards.
  • Provide regular feedback to the ESG Assurance Manager to raise potential issues or risks including early identification of potential delay to agreed testing plans, reporting requirements and remediation actions.
  • Seek ongoing feedback on the suitability of the controls assurance work and meet changing user and stakeholder needs, driving a flexible approach to the delivery of an excellent Internal Control ESG Assurance function that can best support the RCSAs (Rick Control Self Assessments), internal/external audit and continual process improvement.
  • Support a team of 20+ offshore team members through their business-as-usual activities, guiding team members to deliver value adding outcomes. Act as an escalation point between the offshore team and onshore management.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships within Group Internal Audit, Risk, and external audit.

About you

In order to succeed in this role you will have:

  • Prior experience in a similar assurance/ audit role, preferably with an ESG focus.
  • Experienced at producing control documentation and performing operating and design effectiveness testing.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders to remediate control gaps and obtain management buy-in for constructive change/issues. You will be able to collaborate effectively, persuade others and obtain management buy-in for constructive change.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure quality documentation, strong understanding of business issues and an ability to effectively determine suitable remediation options with the business.
  • Adaptable to change and able to work in a high changing environment.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
