Description:

The Estimator II - Structured Cabling reports directly to the Engineering Manager, Structured Cabling located at the Garden Grove Office. Responsibilities include estimating primarily small to large sized projects with a structured cabling requirement. Coordination between various groups/departments is vital and mandatory to the success of Paladin Technologies Operations.
This position requires complete accuracy and attention to detail. The Structured Cabling Estimator II works closely with end users, sales, third-party architecture and engineering firms, and vendors to evaluate the cable infrastructure system. They also work to support corporate objectives by maintaining the highest quality of service to customers and fellow employees.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and interact with the Sales Department to define the Structured Cabling project quoting requirements.
  • Coordinate and interact with the estimation team to ensure quotes are accurate, meet the overall margin requirements of Paladin Technologies, and sale rate minimums, all while trying to help the company increase the Gross Margins.
  • Prepare Budgets based off initial customers description of scope of work.
  • Prepare estimates using company estimation software.
  • Check all customer provided documents to ensure all scopes of work meet the customers’ requirements.
  • Provide detailed scopes of work for each estimated task.
  • Prepare Electronic Takeoffs for every estimate where cable footages are calculated.
  • Work with the CAD and Design Department to create a design package for each estimate as required.
  • Assure the accuracy of bid packages and drawings prior to delivering to client.
  • Provide documents and drawings for job packages estimated to ensure that Operations has all information needed to perform the Scope of Work.
  • Review bid packages thoroughly to ensure all documents, drawings, takeoffs, and proposals have been saved to appropriate folders in shared drive to ensure that Operations has all information needed to perform the Scope of Work.
  • Perform Kick-Off meetings with Operations to ensure all necessary “scope of work” information has been passed on to the Project Manager/Supervisor.
  • Provide support for existing or potential customers with the utmost professionalism whether on the phone or in person.
  • Coordinate with other estimators on multi-discipline quotes to ensure that each trades Scope of Work does not overlap and that there are no scope-gaps.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

Excellent communication skills are required as well as the necessary range of soft skills. Additional qualities needed include approachability, personal skills, team-working ability, adaptability, excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • 5+ years of experience of estimation and or 15+ years in field implementation.
  • Highly technical, with the ability to evaluate situations, utilizing logical and decisive reasoning.
  • Excellent attention to detail and well organized.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills and represents proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Bluebeam.
  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to quote Structured Cabling systems using Paladin Technologies’ estimating software.
  • Must be able to multi-task in an active and dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to manage personal work schedule and accurate allocate time worked on projects.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in potentially adverse situations.
  • Assure each quote submitted meets the margin requirements by department and geographical market.
  • Review all estimates to ensure all quoting requirements are met, and that Paladin Technologies is maximizing gross profit, with consideration to customer needs.
  • Maintain and stay current with Voice/Data/Fiber/OSP Cabling Systems knowledge.
  • Communicate with Senior Management regarding any department related issues, concerns, objectives.
  • Exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset and strive for customer satisfaction and company success.

  • May need to visit customer sites in a variety of settings including General Construction, Customer site, Office Building, etc.
  • Must be able to work outside normal business hours, as business dictates.
  • Limited overnight travel and driving may be required
