CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Business Intelligence team within Santam BITS (Business Information Technology Services) has a position available for a Data Warehouse Developer (ETL), who will be based in Bellville, Cape Town or Johannesburg
JOB DESCRIPTION
The main responsibility of this role is to make the source system data available in the warehouse, using either in-house developed or off-the-shelf ETL tools. This role ensures that the data warehouse is populated with timely, accurate and complete data, adhering to the Data Warehouse design principles and methodologies.
Discipline Specific Output / Task
- Required to work under general direction within a clearly defined accountability framework
- Analyse & Interpret information & data requirements for delivery
- Extract, Transform & Load information, according to requirements, using the defined metadata
- Estimate the effort involved to perform project tasks (per specification)
- Develop according to the Data Warehouse Architecture principles and standards
- Develop in accordance with the Systems Development Methodologies and Frameworks
- Create and maintain complete documentation as required throughout the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Perform Impact Analysis/Assessments to ensure interrelationships between programs are considered for every change.
- Jobs & programs must be developed in a structured manner to ensure optimal data warehouse performance
- Unit, integration & performance testing of delivered code
- Problem solving and root cause analysis of errors in production
- Pro-actively document programming shortfalls and resolutions for future reference
Quality Assurance & Governance Component
- Perform peer code reviews
- Ensure that developed code and SDLC artefacts adhere to the systems design standards and methodologies
- Ensure integrity and delivery of data from the source systems to the target system/s
- Compliance to Data Management Service Level Agreements (SLA) with business
- Ensure that source data quality issues affecting the warehouse are escalated via the correct channel
- Ensure compliance to Data Management policies and procedures
- Report non-compliance to Management
- Adhere to change approval process to initiate changes in production. Responsible for quality of information on change request and could be asked to present change to the Change Approval Board (CAB).
Additional Responsibilities
- Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported or ad-hoc project requirements
- After-hours support according to standby schedul
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Relevant Tertiary IT Qualification or Qualification through experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Data Warehousing from industry recognised Training Institution will be an advantage
- At least 2 years of IT experience
- At least 2 years of experience in a Data Warehouse Environment
- Experience in business, data and application analysis for data integration
- Experience in ETL development, testing, deployment and post-deployment stabilisation
