The Executive Director (ED) Senior Counsel-Compliance is responsible for advising and representing the ministry in specialized matters related to business operations and compliance with federal and state healthcare laws. This role involves navigating the complex regulatory landscape of the healthcare industry, developing compliance strategies, and supporting the ministry’s mission while providing legal advice and critical guidance to Mercy and its affiliates on Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Medicare policies, and fraud and abuse issues.
The ED-Senior Counsel provides oversight of selected outside counsel or consultants as well as legal externs, Staff Attorneys and Assistant Counsel. The clients of an ED-Senior Counsel will be those business or operations personnel in the areas for which subject matter expertise is being provided and certain senior-level committees or task forces within a community or across the ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: Five to six years’ experience as a practicing attorney with corporate, transactional, and regulatory law experience involving contract negotiation and drafting within healthcare.
  • Required Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence.
  • Certifications/Licensure: Member of the State Bar in the applicable state of practice.
  • OTHER:1. Excellent oral and written communications skills.2. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.3. Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
