Job description
King’s College London is one of the world’s top universities with an ambitious vision, the success of which is in part dependent on its ability to engage effectively with key internal and external stakeholders. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new role to support communications and engagement activity for the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Leadership Team.
Working in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and reporting into the Executive Director of Communications and External Affairs the Executive Leadership Communications Officer will take a proactive role in identifying and delivering opportunities for engagement for the Vice-Chancellor and the senior leadership team with both internal and external audiences through events, commentary and social media. Working with colleagues across Communications and External Affairs the post holder will ensure King’s executive leaders play a prominent role across our strategic campaigns in support of the University’s objectives and vision.
What you’ll need to succeed
You will have a successful track record of developing and implementing effective and high-quality communications content including but not restricted to speeches, presentations, opinion pieces and articles, briefings and social media posts.
You will be experienced and confident in engaging across all levels of an organisation and will be able to recognise opportunities for senior colleagues to make a meaningful contribution across multiple channels. In addition, you will be able to support and guide colleagues in how to most effectively engage with a variety of audiences. An accomplished storyteller you are able to bring to life the accomplishments, opportunities and challenges the university faces and make them accessible. You are able to manage your own time effectively, are agile and adaptable to changing priorities, and someone who will support others when necessary to support effective delivery. You will be able to demonstrate the impact of your work using data and feedback.

Key responsibilities
Identify, plan, deliver and measure the effectiveness of communications and engagement activity undertaken by the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Leadership Team.
Provide advice and guidance to senior leaders to ensure communications are strategic, effective, engaging and that the University Senior Leadership Team demonstrates visible leadership.
Researching and producing scripts, speeches, presentations, opinion pieces, articles, recordings, web and social media content for the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the Senior Leadership Team as appropriate.
Manage complex interdependencies across a range of initiatives, advise stakeholders and communication colleagues on the implications of dependencies and where appropriate, advise on and recommend solutions to maximise audience understanding and/or engagement.
Develop strong relationships across the University so you are informed about priorities and emerging issues that will equip you to advise on and position communications in the best way.
Use evidenced practice from across the sector and other industries to inform an innovative approach and drive continuous improvement.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of building effective relationships with senior leaders and in showing strong influencing skills that lead to positive quantifiable outcomes.
  • Excellent writing skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to engage with a variety of different audiences.
  • A proven track record of content creation including in person, written and digital content
  • Knowledge of communications best practice including accessibility
  • Ability to translate complex messages into accessible and engaging content.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach with the ability to build effective links and relationships.
  • Experience of using evaluation tools to report on and improve activities and to build best practice.
  • Experience of using multimedia technologies and presentation tools
  • Interest in and understanding of the Higher Education Sector.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of work in a CEO or Top executive Office
  • Demonstrated expertise in using Social Media to drive engagement
