ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to grasp and communicate big picture issues, to a variety of stakeholders and at the same time translate this into detailed plans and solutions
  • A degree or equivalent qualification and experience, complemented by a robust enthusiasm and interest in scientific and engineering fields
  • Ability to write strategy, business cases, policy, management, and other business documents.
  • Ability to implement plans and decisions made at executive level. including managing upwards and across the organisation
  • Effectively organise and prioritise the senior executive time to support them with delivering UKIFS objectives, managing the flow of information to the team and making judgements on priorities
  • Ability to influence at a range of levels in the organisation, ranging from senior levels to working level
  • A track record of securing decisions and approvals from senior colleagues in complex organisations
    Good experience of building relationships, demonstrating sensitivity, tact and an appreciation of other perspectives and viewpoints to find compromise, delivering through other people.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) , including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

THE ROLE

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference on a global scale? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as Executive Officer in the field of fusion energy. In this role you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the UKIFS organisation, supporting the Chair and CEO in all their organisation, STEP delivery programme, and governance duties. You will support the Executive Office that focuses on working with the UKIFS Board, and leadership team across a broad range of topics.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting the corporate business plan and enacting time bound discrete projects within challenging timescales to deliver that plan.
  • Policy and standards design, development, and deployment.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders including our sponsoring department, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), UKAEA group, the UKIFS and STEP programme team, and whole plant partners.
  • Point of contact, coordinator, and responder to the requirement for ministerial correspondence and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the executive office professionally.
  • Deputising for UKIFS Executives in various environments.
  • Understanding how the business operates during its early stages, identifying gaps and other improvement opportunities.
  • Own the delivery of improvement initiatives as required by the CEO, and Directors.
  • Developing and managing the flow of information reviewed by decision making committees.
  • Developing the approach and planning for UKIFS and the STEP programme in coordination with the Business Resilience and Operations team.
  • Identifying emerging approval and reporting requirements of UKIFS, developing approaches, and options to address.
  • Highlighting issues and risks, proposing mitigating actions for discussion, leading to agreement and implementation of approaches.
  • Focusing and leading on critical business function issues. Overseeing key projects and initiatives originating from the executive office, coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring project milestones are achieved.
  • Planning, scheduling, and facilitating Executive and Committee level meetings.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of meeting materials including agendas, submissions, minutes, decision records, future plans, and action items.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive team environment that aligns with our cultural values.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to team members, promoting professional development.
  • Contributing to maintaining a respectful and collaborative workplace, valuing diversity, and promoting teamwork.
