COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • A Diploma in Mining Engineering / or similar qualification is desirable
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in large hard rock open pit gold mining operations (of which 5 years must be in a senior supervisory position).
  • Hands on experience with large mining equipment, combined with a well developed understanding of all the mining activities required to effectively manage the day to day fleet assignments and KPI’s in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong drill and blast experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience with fleet management systems such as Wenco would be desirable.
  • Ability to pass on your experience and mentor the national workforce is essential.
  • Possess a positive attitude and work well in a team environment on a remote site.
  • Sound knowledge of mining industry practices, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Sound computer skills and knowledge of applicable software.
  • Code B driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • Manage contractors in the pit to ensure production and adherence to safety procedures, and relevant statutory legislation;
  • Investigate and close out any actions related to safety incidents in the active mine area;
  • Collaborate closely with the technical team on short and medium term planning requirements;
  • Execute the plan in the field by managing and allocating the appropriate resources in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team on scheduling maintenance and breakdown repairs of the earthmoving fleet;
  • Collaborate with the mine dispatch team to effectively manage the fleets;
  • Work closely with the dewatering team to implement and manage the pit dewatering requirements;
  • Implement and manage ore stockpiles, waste dumps and rehabilitation in line with relevant designs, schedules and environmental controls;
  • Coordinate mining projects with the mining teams and other departments, where necessary;
  • Operate within departmental budget as set by department manager;
  • Provide input into the open pit operational budget;
  • Manage crew rosters in line with budget expectations;
  • Assure performance review for all staff members (junior & senior), establish work plans and progress assessments;
  • Assist each staff member in compiling a Personal Development Plan [PDP] and ensure on the job coaching or other appropriate training interventions;
  • Ensure compliance with relevant and applicable mining HSE statutory legislation; and
  • Other duties as set out by the Company.
