TYPICAL PRACTICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE SHOULD INCLUDE:
- 5+ years of Corporate Communications or Public Affairs background via a government, peak body, media or corporate role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Politics or Social Science
- A genuine and keen interest in politics, communications, current affairs, government and the media with established networks in these areas
- Strong writing capabilities – the confidence and ability to write clearly and succinctly
- Strong analytical skills to absorb complex and technical information and turning it into clear and concise information
- Organisation skills – capable of setting up and adhering to your own system of structuring your work day, prioritising tasks, methodically completing regular tasks and proactive working on implementation of communications plans
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and listening skills
- Strong networks across government, bureaucracy and/or media
- Positive approach with a good sense of humour
Responsibilities:
SEC Newgate’s Canberra team is looking for an experienced public affair professional to work on projects that help clients make a difference. We are looking for an experienced specialist to join the team, either in a full-time or a part-time capacity. The successful candidate is likely to have come from the federal or state government (political office or department), a media organisation, a peak body or a corporate affairs function of a business.
As part of the SEC Newgate Communications team, you will have the opportunity to work on complex issues for government, not-for-profit and corporate clients. You will be a core team member who will help provide clients with a truly integrated solution when facing a complex communications challenge – this includes strategy development and implementation, issues management, government relations, organisational reviews, media relations, community and stakeholder engagement, market and social research and digital communications.
