Title: Explorer Counselor
FLSA Status: Exempt Pay: $250-265/Weekly
Status: Full-Time (Seasonal) Department: Camp

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, an Explorer Camp Counselor is responsible for providing an excellent camp experience to all campers, ensuring campers’ safety, leading activities, and assisting campers through any challenges and triumphs they may face throughout the week. This position is a day/commuting position Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and an overnight position Thursday-Friday. The position runs from June 4th, 2023 until August 11th, 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- First Aid and CPR Certifications or willingness to obtain.
- Must have a desire and willingness to work with children.
- Previous work or volunteer experience with children.
- Must be able to adapt quickly and have a quick response.
- Demonstrate good judgment
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Alongside co-counselor(s) supervise a group of campers ages 6-10.
- Lead daily camp activities including but not limited to archery, canoeing, sports, crafts, etc.
- Participate in activities with children, which include swimming daily in our pool.
- Provide physical, emotional, and/or social support to campers.
- Assist with cabin activities, which include horse rides, and zip-lining.
- Supports and implements a work environment that puts campers first.
- Ability to assist campers with a variety of needs such as homesickness, behavior management, and conflict resolution.
- Follows safety guidelines.
- To implement all ACA and Camp Campbell Gard rules and regulations.
- Work effectively as a team with all Camp Campbell Gard staff.
- Responsible for the safety and welfare of all campers enrolled in programming including maintaining the appropriate ratio and supervision at all times.
- Must stay overnight on Thursday night and supervise/live with campers during those overnights.
