Explosion Protection Technician (Burlington, Canada)
Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for an EP Technician (Burlington, Canada) position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

SUMMARY:

Provide on site technical support, for end users of Fike Explosion Protection Systems. Provide on-site system commissioning, inspection and maintenance services and emergency rebuilds.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Completion of a post-secondary two-year minimum electrical or electronics course.
A minimum of 3 months in field service accompanied by an experienced Fike service technician.
Bilingual in French and English would be an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 1 year electrical/electronic, fire alarm or equivalent field experience required and must be judged capable by the Production/Service Manager.

Responsibilities:

Travels to site to perform system maintenance, startup and emergency rebuild, striving to maintain a less than 4 hour response time.
Performs routine technical inspections and diagnose system problems. Coordinates with the customer and /or Fike Service Department to help resolve problems as quickly and in a cost effective manner as possible.
Follows operating procedures, as required.
Approves all new systems prior to commissioning, ensuring component locations, mounting and wiring are within Fike specifications.
Uses inspection, measurement and test equipment to assure all dimensions and tolerances as specified on drawings and Fike procedures for response times and pressure detector calibration are met.
Authorizes any changes in component location/mounting through communication with Fike Application Engineering personnel.
Obtains purchase order prior to arrival at customer’s location.
Interfaces with customer in an effort to provide additional sales leads.
Coordinates with on-site personnel any additional duties to be performed related to Fike systems in a timely and cost effective manner.
Provides customer with information on spare parts and obtains a parts order when possible.
Provides customer feedback, prepares customer billing information covering travel labour and parts cost.
Writes trip reports for each customers system serviced and email them an electronic copy, clearly identifying parts used and any deficiencies.
Maintains technical records of site visits and keeps daily time logs.
Creates and completes work orders as required.
Be responsible for care of tools, PPE and vehicles.
A valid Ontario driver’s license is required and must have and maintain a good driving record.
Must have and maintain a reliable and suitable vehicle for work.
Must be bondable, and able to clear Federal security clearance checks.
Be available for “on call” duty and after hours emergency response.
Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
Immediately reports to a Supervisor or Manager any practice or situation deemed unsafe.
Works carefully and cautiously in order not to injure himself/herself or any other personnel.
Regular and consistent on time attendance is required.
Work week is 40 regular hours as scheduled by supervisor(s) based upon customer requirements and/or supervisor. Regular work week is Monday through Sunday (days, evenings, nights) as scheduled. Over-time is required as part of this position.
Effective communication skills.
Provides written report as requested.
Canada-wide travel requirement is 70-80% of the time.
Work in varying conditions ranging from -40C to +50C, in indoor and outdoor environments that may include rain, snow, sun, wind.
Performs other technical or production duties as assigned.
