The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity, through our IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program, for Facilities Crane Maintenance Mechanic A Apprentice for our Puyallup site in Washington State!
This 4-year apprenticeship is 8,000 hours in length (7,360 on-the-job hours and 640 school hours) and includes paid on-the-job training and unpaid classroom education. The first 20% of the on-the-job training is a probationary period. Apprentices attend school for a minimum 144 unpaid hours per school year (four hours each week) at the South Seattle College Georgetown Apprenticeship and Education Center. Apprentice wages are defined in Article 17 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with International Association of Machinists District 751 and The Boeing Company. Apprentices advance one wage progression step for every 1000 apprenticeship on the job training hours until completion. Graduates are placed in the target job at the maximum rate and receive a Journey-worker Certificate and Card - recognized worldwide.

Apprentices will learn the following tasks to become proficient as a Journey level graduate of the program:

  • Perform maintenance on all types of cranes (e.g., cab-controlled overhead cranes, floor controlled (radio or pendant) overhead cranes, jib cranes).
  • The Facilities Crane Maintenance Mechanic apprentice training includes, inspection, diagnoses, assemble, disassemble, adjust and test all types of cranes, used to lift, move and position aircraft assemblies, equipment and/or materials and troubleshooting.
  • Mechanics in this position are required to work at extreme heights and become a Certified Crane Inspector.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in applying intermediate algebra, geometry, and/or trigonometry concepts.
  • Fluent in English with strong comprehension and communication skills.
  • Experience reading and interpreting Blueprints
  • Experience using Basic Precision Measuring Tools
    Math and English requirements to be verified by assessment or equivalent course completion in Intermediate Algebra or better, taken within the last 5 years and English 90 or better.
    All assessments and/or courses must be completed prior to submitting your application. Assessments taken for English and/or math are required to show both the assessment score and the course placement results (course number and course title) for that score.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.
