Plains currently has an immediate opening for a temporary Facility Engineer (Professional Engineer) to cover for a leave of absence in the current NGL West District engineering team. Term of this assignment will be approximately 12-14 months.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support to the Fort Saskatchewan, Buck Creek, and High Prairie NGL processing facilities in project management, process optimizing, work order support, process safety management, troubleshooting of various plant equipment and infrastructure. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are confident in their ability to work on multiple projects. #plains

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering is preferred;
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, Oil and Gas operations and regulatory requirements;
  • Knowledgeable in project management processes;
  • Data mining and analytical capabilities to support prioritization of work;
  • Strong leadership, initiative taking, time management and prioritization skills;
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision;
  • Basic understanding of distillation operations, heat transfer equipment and pump hydraulics;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Strong computer, organizational and technical skills; and
  • Successful candidate must pass a Company Background Check and a Drug & Alcohol test prior to hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead or assist projects related to plant piping, storage, pipelines and rail/truck loading (including: material specification, procurement, QC requirements, and development of construction drawings);
  • Completion of Work Orders and support to planning and scheduling on prioritization and quantification of risks associated with scopes of work.
  • Develop and recommend projects, as well as a related scope, to improve performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue;
  • Provide project management services on small projects
  • Provide engineering support to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities;
  • Responsible for interfacing with Calgary project management engineers and EPC contractor engineers throughout feed and start-up activities for related expansion projects;
  • Provide support for the Management of Change evaluations for technical and administrative changes proposed including associated process safety evaluations (HAZOP, Management of Change Checklists);
  • Become proficient and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to engineering activities. Support the refinement of PMC specifications;
  • Participate in incident investigations, process and equipment failure analysis as required;
  • Perform simple economic analysis of projects. Recognize the key business drivers which generate value (low operating costs, flexibility, importance of reacting to outside business influences); and
  • Provide innovative, cost effective solutions to plant problems.
