Longview Farms, situated in Central Saanich, BC, stands as a forward-thinking cultivator and distributor of a diverse range of Certified Organic fruit and vegetable crops. Recognized as the largest Certified Organic vegetable farm on Vancouver Island, our produce, including daffodils and bulbs, graces the shelves of numerous local retail stores across Vancouver Island and the mainland.
The Farm Stand Ambassador will be responsible for setting up, operating, and tearing down/closing the farmers market stand at a variety of farmer’s markets around the Greater Victoria area. This role will report to the Farm Manager and will collaborate and work closely with the Head Grower and Office & Sales Admin. A successful Farm Stand Ambassador will have great people skills and enjoy communicating with customers. As the “face of the farm”, this person will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with the community.

Responsibilities

  • Pack up/tear down and transport of produce, including equipment (e.g., tent, tables, cash box, etc.) to/from farmers’ markets.
  • Maintain produce quality throughout the day (i.e., temperature control, hydration).
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the farm stand, including the area around the stand.
  • Accurately record the produce inventory at the beginning and end of each day at the farmers market.
  • Conduct sales at farmer’s markets including managing debit/credit processing and cash sales.
  • Work with the Head Grower to learn produce varieties, growing standards and quality expectations and ultimately help to select produce and quantities for the farm stand.
  • Market the items available in the farm stand by creating and displaying signage, circulating weekly email communications, and posting on social media - Facebook, Instagram.
  • Assisting with additional duties at the farm on an as needed basis.

Requirements

  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
  • Able to walk, stand, kneel, lift 50 lbs., and perform other physical duties in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and problem solve effectively.
  • Ability to work with multiple individuals at varying levels in the organization and with varying levels of experience.
  • Flexibility in schedule to work Thursday through Sunday with varied and extended hours as required.
  • Enjoys people and being outside
  • Efficient and detail-oriented
  • Great customer service skills
  • Interest in organic farming / sustainable agriculture
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and social media etiquette

Schedule

This is a part-time temporary/seasonal position, Thursday through Saturday, starting in early June and ending first weekend of September. There is a possibility for additional hours.

  • Thursday – Sidney Night Market – 3:30pm – 9:30pm
  • Friday – At Longview Farms – 10:00am – 3:00pm
  • Saturday – Peninsula Farmers Market – 7:30am – 2:30pm
  • Saanich Fair – Labour Day Long Weekend (August 31, 2024 – September 2, 2024)
