LOCATION/DIVISION SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries.
Our organization in Richardson, TX is looking for an Applications Engineer III to join our nanoprobing / electrical failure analysis (EFA) team. You will be providing technical expertise and developing new techniques in support of Thermo Fisher’s Semiconductor product development. This is a customer-facing position, ideal for an ambitious engineer or technologist who wants to be involved with a diverse team and exposed to various customer application areas. Must reside within the Dallas Metro Area. Relocation not provided.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related Engineering subject area. An advanced degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of experience in Semiconductor electrical device characterization, process development, or manufacturing technology in target sectors and applications (i.e., Semiconductor, MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical Systems), Data Storage).
  • Experience with the operation of capital equipment or related tools used for Yield-Enhancement (YE), Defect or Root Cause Analysis, Metrology, and related applications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Understanding of semiconductor device operation, processing, statistical process control, device physics, and failure analysis techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with Scanning Electron Microscopes, electronic device testing and vacuum systems.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics as well as fault finding techniques, operational optimization, and experience with analytical equipment; specifically, electron/ion microscopes, parametric analyzers, electron beam techniques (EBAC, EBIC, EBIRCH), pulsing (AC) characterization, capacitance–voltage (C-V) measurements, temperature characterization.
  • Excellent, enthusiastic, clear communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to the success of this position.
  • Excellent customer interfacing skills are a must-have.
  • Up to 25% travel (overnight travel 1 week a month approximately).
  • Ability to travel both, domestically and internationally. Possession of a valid passport.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality nanoprobing product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher partners and customers, particularly those in the Semiconductor Failure Analysis marketplace.
  • Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions.
  • Provide technical product expertise and assistance with all phases of the sales cycle.
  • Encourage positive customer relationships and act as a high-level customer interface for specific instrument/application issues, explaining sophisticated technology details, giving in-depth technical presentations, and assisting in application development.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the product groups regarding system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.
  • Process development and defining technical solutions for crafting new products.
  • Deliver Best Practice documentation to customer-specific processes, write production recipes, and run qualification experiments to drive the use of our tools in production.
  • Fix and report software and hardware issues and raise them to Software and Engineering development teams, as needed.
  • Recommend potential applications consistent with customer requirements and technical feasibility.
  • Provide technical support to R&D (Research & Development), Manufacturing, Customer Service, and other departments as required.
