What to Expect
The Field Quality team’s mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by reducing field issues. The role is responsible for products such as Powerwall, Megapack and Supercharger and works cross functionally with other engineering and service teams. We are seeking a multi-faceted engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, implementing countermeasures, and reporting on issues affecting products. To be effective, the Field Quality engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of our Energy Products and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. They will work with other engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor products field performance, identify trending issues. Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure modes
  • Coordinate efforts with the Failure Analysis team to identify root-causes of problems
  • Collaborate with engineering, factory quality and suppliers to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production
  • Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering leadership on improvement priorities and urgency
  • Drive upward design feedback during design reviews by utilizing information on field performance, reliability and factory quality issues. (DFMEAs)
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred, such as Mechatronic, Electrical, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a Quality, Failure Analysis or Service in consumer electronics or automotive.
  • For entry level candidates, Co-ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE; Solar vehicle.
  • The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside.
  • Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
  • Programming Languages & Tools: SQL, Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
