Description:
Wood has an opportunity for a Field Structural Engineer to work in Elk Valley, BC . We are seeking a highly organized site structural engineer with exceptional leadership abilities to join our expanding team.
This position will be fly-in/fly-out, with rotations of 13 x 8 (12 hours per day) for approximately 12 months.

Salary range: CDN 117,000 - 150,000 per year

- Interface with the site structural and concrete contractor concerning quality of work and adherence to applicable codes, standards, design documents, and schedules
- Provide engineering technical support to the field during construction, including responding to RFIs from construction contractors, issuing Site Instructions, and performing field reviews.
- Review Wood design drawings and specifications and become familiar enough with design documents to monitor contractor construction activities to ensure compliance with design and specifications.
- Mitigating risk, ensuring compliance, and evaluating environmental impact.
- Attend daily construction meetings with clients and stakeholders.
- Write daily and/or weekly field engineering reports monitoring progress and any activities performed.
- Review contractor Inspection and Test Plan (ITP)
- Inspect construction and review survey documentation to ensure the contractor follows engineering design.
- Respond to all technical queries on-site and liaise with the home office design team.
- Provide site instructions based on actual field conditions different from design drawings under the supervision of the Lead Structural engineer.
- Review contract as built documentation
- Develop and maintain positive, sustainable client relationships.
- Liaise with the Client and on-site and off-site vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil / structural engineering, construction, or similar from a recognized university.
- Preferred P. Eng designation or ability to register as a Professional with EGBC
- 5 - 15 years of relevant experience in mining construction projects or similar heavy industrial construction
- Knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and safety regulations
- Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and timely decision making ability backed by sound engineering, construction, and design knowledge.
- Proven experience communicating with site subcontractors and vendors
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote field locations.
- Proven strong leadership and management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and complete tasks in a timely matter.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and interpersonal abilities
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Positive attitude and ability to effectively work in a multi-discipline team atmosphere is imperative.
- Committed to continual improvement and achieving engineering excellence.
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
