SUMMARY

Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay) is welcoming applications for Field Supervisor (TX) on the Teacher Preparation team. Supervising the teaching internship is a shared responsibility of Relay GSE and our partner schools. As a Field Supervisor, you will share the responsibility of supervising the teaching internship with Relay GSE and our partner schools. Your weekly activities will include communicating with your manager for supervision updates, conducting in-person observations, conducting pre- and post-observation conferences with students, and keeping accurate records of student progress.
To grow your own skills as a teacher coach and leader of adults, you will have the opportunity to participate in team professional development and individualized coaching. This is a great opportunity for experienced teachers and/or past school leaders who are looking to gain additional experience leading adult educators.

QUALIFICATIONS

First and foremost, the field supervisor must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. Additionally, for this position we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • A master’s degree or doctoral degree in a relevant educational field
  • At least five years of experience teaching in a P-12 setting
  • Strength in developing strong relationships and community in an in-person and online setting with students and Relay faculty
  • Evidence observing, coaching, and developing new PK-12 teachers
  • Ability to commit to all required duties including availability to observe a caseload of Relay students during the day on weekdays and possible evening meetings
  • Ability to commit approximately 10 hours per week to this role (note: this is an average, some weeks may be higher/lower depending on observation windows and number of students scheduled each week)
  • Current field supervisor observation certificate in the state of Texas preferred or ability to complete the training & receive certification by the start of the Spring observation cycle (Relay GSE will reimburse the costs of training)
  • Ability to travel reliably within the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area to conduct frequent in-person observations

Responsibilities:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will conduct field supervision for a caseload of 1-20 teacher interns in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area. The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include:

Field Supervision: Observations (~40%)

  • Travel to teacher intern school sites in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area to observe each teacher intern in a classroom setting approximately two times during the TEA designated observation windows across each term. Each in-person observation must be 45 minutes.

Field Supervision: Conferences with Teacher Interns (~45%)

  • Prepare for pre-observation conferences and post-observation feedback sessions by reviewing teacher lesson plans, collecting information about practices in the classroom/student progress, and preparing resources to support teachers with areas of need
  • Conduct a 15 - 30 minute pre-observation conference virtually or in-person with each teacher intern before an observation cycle during school hours; preview the teacher intern’s lesson for the observation during this conference
  • Conduct a 15 - 30 min post-observation feedback session virtually or in-person post-observation with each teacher intern during school hours
  • Upload documentation as required by the TEA in Anthology within 72 hours; evaluation rubric, lesson plan, pre-observation form
  • Support teacher interns’ internalization of ethical and professional conduct and their ability to handle work/school problems with the strictest confidence through relationship-building and feedback within conferences

Field Supervision: Training and Caseload Management (~15%):

  • Complete state of Texas training on field supervision if needed (one business day of training that Relay GSE will reimburse)
  • Complete Relay training and periodic check-ins with the Professor, Texas Clinical Practice Field Experience
  • Communicate weekly with teacher interns and manager to ensure:
  • With Relay Teacher Interns: introduce yourself and your role, collect schedules, and provide reminders about upcoming observations or conferences
  • With your manager, (Professor, Texas Clinical Practice Field Experience): share trends in strengths and areas for growth for teacher interns and identify teacher interns who may require additional counseling, assistance, or support (e.g. campus growth plans, additional observations)
  • Conduct a final, asynchronous written evaluation of teacher interns at the end of the spring term

Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports our ability to recruit and retain a diverse and talented team. As we make decisions about compensation, we will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. The salary range for this role is $3900-$11,800/year with mileage reimbursement. The offered salary will depend on the number of observations required which is contingent on your start date, the number of teacher interns in your caseload, and their required observations. We will re-evaluate each field supervisor’s student caseload in the Spring, which may result in a decrease of pay. To ensure internal pay equity:

  • Relay does not currently differentiate starting salary offers based on years of experience,
  • All staff salaries will be capped at the salary range maximum, and
  • Relay does not negotiate salary offers
