Description:

Convergint is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, results driven and forward-thinking Field Technical Lead - Building Automation to join our amazing team in Toronto. Under minimal supervision, this role is responsible for installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and customer training on projects of various sizes and complexities.
It ensures the successful delivery of projects within budget and time constraints while serving as a key interface for technical support, maximizing customer satisfaction. Additionally, the role includes mentoring and coaching less-experienced staff. Under general supervision, the position expands to encompass leadership, worksite planning, scheduling, and organizing for field installation and start-up. The Field Technical Lead ensures safe execution of work, monitors productivity, and maintains effective relationships with contractors and clients. Furthermore, the role involves planning, directing, engineering, procurement, and start-up of projects to achieve cost efficiency, timeliness, and positive cash flow.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of five years of previous, relevant and proven field experience required.
  • Experience in the Building Automation industry is required.
  • Engineering/ Diploma in Electronics/IT strongly preferred.
  • PMP is considered an asset
  • Relevant trade experience required.

Responsibilities:

FOR ASSIGNED SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZE PROJECTS, WILL WORK AS THE LEAD, COMPLETING THE FOLLOWING TASKS:

  • Manages, oversees and coordinates aspects for small to medium projects of moderate complexity from award through completion of project, including overall site management of project(s) for successful and timely completion within budget.
  • Review of all scope of work, terms and conditions in customer contracts including cost control, delivery fulfillment, and quality of service and other customer requirements as they arise and supports and advises the Project Manager on key aspects such as subcontractor selection, material selection etc.
  • Proactively communicates project requirements to project team and wider organization as and when required and maintains accurate and up to date records of job status, job changes, material flow and other control records necessary for processing of internal and external reports.
  • Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties and assist in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Coordinates the procurement of installations materials, supplies, services and controls necessary for timely and cost-effective completion of project within budget.
  • Authenticate the goods received and works with the Project Administrator to record and manage shipments that have any discrepancies in the order and address any issues
  • Ensure all project documentation is up to date and uploaded on respective job folders

For assigned Medium to Larger size project, will work alongside Project Manager, completing the following tasks:

  • Translates a variety of customer needs / requirements and works with Project Manager to create detailed proposals and project plans to meet Customer requirements;
  • Leads communication with client and stakeholders with email turnaround time not more that 24hrs.
  • Executes all the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including, preparation of project documentation such as commissioning reports, as-built drawings, programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support, etc.
  • Advises Project Manager on establishing project milestones; Analyze costs and find opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering throughout the project lifecycle.

ON ALL PROJECTS, WILL COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING TASKS:

  • Installs, programs, test, repairs, and services a substantial variety of security systems and equipment. Colleague is key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and as such is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction.
  • Reads blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation requirements; Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using advanced test instruments and hand tools.
  • Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions. Writes non-routine programs of substantial variety and complexity for systems.
  • Consults with supervisor and/or engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
  • Advises supervisor regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards.
  • Assist Supervisor during monthly project reviews with Project cost admins and advise deviation to project plan and/or project cost estimates as necessary to meet financial goals.
  • Provides diagnostic and troubleshooting support to existing customers, sales team and service department as necessary for possible problems including electrical and installation problems.
  • Makes recommendations regarding quality of work and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
  • Using technical knowledge, skills and experience, mentors and trains less experienced staff. May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
  • Communicates with and works with the other team members consistently to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center, and company.
