POSITION SUMMARY:

The Finance Business Partner will play a critical role in executing CHN’s growth strategy. This position involves partnering with operations in British Columbia and Alberta to offer financial guidance and analytics that inform key decisions, drive growth, and support CHN’s mission. The Finance Business Partner must thoroughly understand all financial aspects, including contracts, invoicing, P&L, variance analysis, data consolidation, and special projects for British Columbia and Alberta. Emphasizing safety, quality, and the patient experience, the Finance Business Partner will provide essential financial analysis to support these priorities. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Regional Operations Director for British Columbia and Alberta.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Commercial Finance

  • Support the creation of and challenge business cases for new business development. Ensure that business development is financially sustainable, aligned with strategy, and prioritizes quality, patient safety, and growth
  • Develop relationships within the operations group, cross-functional partners, and key central services groups
  • Lead other special projects and ad hoc reporting as required
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all finance-related questions for the relevant Regional Operations Director, appropriately managing stakeholders and supporting them with financial analysis and decision-making
  • Perform monthly financial reviews (comparing actual results to the plan and prior year). Take a proactive role in understanding key financial components in the P&L, explaining key drivers of material changes in financial results. Draw insights and make recommendations to business partners on opportunities for improvement
  • Support a thorough analysis and evaluation of plans, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring proper resource allocation by providing financial insights and constructive challenges

Performance management and reporting

  • Take ownership of identified incremental risks and opportunities (versus the forecast/plan) and support the operations team in efforts to execute a given course of action.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources, including the preparation of weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Working in partnership with the financial reporting team, take ownership of financial inputs and financial processes to ensure finance operations are efficient and accurately reflect underlying business operations.
  • Review inventory balances and ensure efficient management of working capital.
  • Safeguard that accounting and billing properly reflect operational activity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, including roles in FP&A or commercial finance (such as public practice assurance, commercial finance, FP&A, corporate development, and/or consulting)
  • Qualified accountant, undergraduate business degree
  • Experience working in health care or a multi-site operation would be an advantage
  • Ability to interface and influence across multiple organisational levels, especially key business stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly evolving environment.
  • A keen eye for detail in preparing complex monthly reports and reviewing information from partners, ensuring accuracy of inputs
  • You have a solid understanding of financial metrics and P&L fundamentals, recognizing when there’s enough analysis and discussion to take action
  • You proactively create authentic relationships with other functions and senior management to discuss challenges and incorporate their perspective, creating trust and a mutually beneficial solution.
  • You can spot and seize opportunities while ensuring deadlines are met. You don’t just stop there; you drive the solution to the end - even if it’s outside your responsibilities
  • Experience in working effectively with teams based across different geographies and time zones
  • You facilitate projects through cross-functional collaboration, working with teams in both Calgary and Vancouver, and travel is required.
