You will hire someone to handle the Financial control side, so your strengths optimising financial strategies, financial modelling, proactively driving sustainable growth and accountability, and effectively tell the financial narrative to internal leaders, VCs and our board.
We’re a fairly early stage SaaS startup so this role is hands on, you will build out a team (it will be just you at the start) and have access to external partners but we’re looking for someone with experience (and who enjoys) setting things up from the early days.
We have a hybrid way of working with around 2 days a week in the office which is a short walk from Central station in Sydney.
The role
In short, you’ll be the decision maker of every Financial aspect of Mutinex which includes:
- Financial Strategy and Decision Support: Develop long-term financial strategies, set financial goals, and ensure resources are used efficiently. Provide financial analysis and guidance to support strategic decision-making.
This includes evaluating investment opportunities, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and assessing the financial viability of new initiatives. Collaborate with other departments to evaluate the financial impact of business decisions and provide recommendations to optimise financial outcomes.
Financial Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting principles - primarily revenue recognition of our enterprise contracts and implement and monitor internal controls.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Creating and managing the company’s financial budget, forecast future financial outcomes, and working with department heads to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints by tracking performance to plan.
Financial Reporting: Be the financial voice of the business by overseeing the preparation and distribution of financial and board reports to both the board and the broader team (we believe in financial transparency), ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable financial standards.
- SaaS Metrics: Implementing SaaS metrics and disciplines to ensure positive unit economics. Drive insights around retention, churn, cost of acquisition and lifetime value.
- Financial Operations: Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the company.
We expect you to hire a Financial controller/Manager to handle the hands on side of this work which includes managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, invoicing and recording of financial transactions. You will look to hire a Finance Manager or Financial Controller soon after starting to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial data and adherence to internal controls and build out this functionality in the US.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for someone with a background in Venture Capital or Investment Banking who understands the challenges in startups and wants to get their hands dirty in a scale up environment. You would be at a Senior/Manager/Head of level in VC or IB.
If you’ve led Financial functions in SaaS startup/Scale Ups then we’d also be keen to chat.

- Strong strategic collaboration and experience working with senior stakeholders and proven ability to align financial strategies with business goals.
Thorough understanding of financial regulation and leadership of audits.
- Experience building and leading a team culture around driving cost efficiencies
About Mutinex
We might be an early stage startup but we already have strong product market fit, household name clients (Samsung, Mars, CUB and ING to name a few) and millions in revenue.
Being early stage means we’re also still pretty scrappy and you wouldn’t be coming into a well oiled machine, yet. But you would get a lot of opportunity to design, build and oil the machine until it’s super oily.
We aren’t aiming to be another Tech Unicorn because Unicorns aren’t real. We are aiming (and confident of being) more like a real and really big animal that lives for a long time, like a Bowhead Whale.
Mutinex is a startup B2B SaaS platform that provides in-depth data analytics for marketers to better understand their ROI and make better decisions with future spend.
Founded in Australia, we’ve hit millions in ARR & have seed funding ($5 million in May 2023 & $9.5 million in October 2023 backed by EVP) that we’ll use for growing our team to continue to improve our product, bring in new customers and enable them to make better and more informed decisions.
We have a hybrid work environment with teams in Sydney, Melbourne and expanding into the US.
With a team of around 50 people we value high quality communication, strong opinions that are held loosely and people who can give and take feedback well.
Equity (ESOP) is offered to all staff on top of their salary and we also offer additional annual leave after 1 year of tenure (from 20 to 25 days a year) that continues to grow another day each year of service until you max out at 30 days per year.
- Experience building and leading a team culture around driving cost efficiencies
