Salary: UOM 6 – $92,749 - $100,397 p.a. plus 17% super

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The successful candidate should have experience in a tertiary institution and expertise in budgeting and forecasting, with a focus on managing financial portfolios for projects. They must demonstrate strong attention to detail and analytical skills, along with the ability to generate customised reports for management. Additionally, they should excel in communication within project teams and ideally have experience with University of Melbourne financial processes. Importantly, they should be driven by a desire to make a global impact.

You will also have:

  • Graduate qualifications in Finance, Accounting or other relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of tertiary qualifications and relevant experience
  • Experience working in a tertiary institution
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting and forecasting
  • Demonstrated ability to generate timely customised reports for management on budget, actual and forecast

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based within the Directorate of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, the Finance Officer will manage financial administration for externally funded projects, including those supported by DFAT and the Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics. Collaborating with an international network of partners, the role involves ensuring financial sustainability through effective budget management, reporting, and administrative operations. The Finance Officer will demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and strong communication skills while working autonomously within a multidisciplinary team, reporting to the Finance Manager—CGCPT and collaborating closely with project officers and finance officers at the Doherty Institute.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the processing of day-to-day financial transactions for the projects, working in conjunction with University Financial Services
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports as required and comparing financial performance to budget and forecast for projects.
  • Effectively manage financial issues on the projects that may impede the progress and work with project implementation staff to resolve these issues.
  • Facilitate budget tracking across all project activities
