About You
As the Finance Operations Manager you will partner with the Director, Central Finance Operations, the Central Finance Operations Senior Leadership Team and cross-functional senior stakeholders to provide leadership, management, oversight and escalations of all processes delivered by the Finance transactional team. The Finance transactional teams incorporate finance professional specialising in accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including all associated banking transactions.
As the Finance Operations Manager, you will be responsible for developing and leading operational initiatives to achieve function and team goals. You will also have responsibility for the identification, management and mitigation of financial and non-financial risks.
You are knowledgeable about day-to-day financial operations and products and understand the inputs required to reduce administrative burden, improve efficiency, reduce cost, minimise risk, satisfy customers, ensure core process are fit for purpose.
You will be relied upon to provide financial operational expertise and advise on best practice methods, contribute to the development and implementation of function and organisational strategies, governance and risk frameworks, reporting, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
You are a collaborator, hands-on and understand the criticalities associated with providing quality customer service within a large, complex and diverse workforce where conflicting interests and opinions of people issues can have large scale impacts and long-term implications.
You know how the business works, are future focused with the capacity to conceptualise and articulately paint credible visions of possibilities, build and maintain effective relationships to gain trust and respect for efficacy and productivity within our complex organisation.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:

  • Significant experience and application of accounting concepts, principles, laws and regulations, policies/procedures and financial management technological solutions.
  • Demonstrated resource and people management/leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to build effective high-performance teams in a commercial environment.
  • An excellent track record leading and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in large and complex organisations undergoing significant growth and transformation coupled with strong self-awareness and the ability to balance competing demands in a highly changeable environment.
  • Advanced stakeholder and customer services skills with proven ability to build effective relationships, work collaboratively with business leaders and multiple stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly-developed business acumen and a willingness to challenge the status quo and look for better, new approaches of doing things to drive culture, agility, high performance and quality customer experience.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written with expertise developing and presenting financial information to leadership teams in a clear and concise manner.

The Finance Operations team is part of Finance & Assurance and the broader Operations Portfolio at RMIT.

The team:

  • Provides assurance and confidence in financial management by meeting our statutory and regulatory reporting obligations, conducting due diligence on strategic partnerships, and treasury and investment management leadership.
  • Supports effective and efficient research projects by supporting project management and acquittal.
  • Manages the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
